Anyone else hate endometriosis?

About once a month I can hardly move due to the pain from endometriosis. It kills my workout rhythm. Anyone else here know what I'm talking about?

:flowerforyou: I do!!! I ended up going on BC, so now I only have to deal with that 4 times a year... so much better!!!

I know it isn't an option for everyone...but it works for me.

Ugh...I know that pain all too well. My doctor originally told me the easy remedy was to "go home and make babies". I wanted to punch him in his &%@. I ended up having surgery (this was about 14 years ago) and it's been much better since but it is starting to come back. My heart hurts for anyone else that has to experience that kind of pain every month. :flowerforyou:
  • I've been on BC since I was eighteen (I would have been on it earlier, but my family was religious and wouldn't allow it, and I didn't know about Planned Parenthood back then) and it is the only thing that helped until I FINALLY got a doctor to help me a few years ago. I had an ovary removed and *TADA* way less pain. It is starting to get bad again, though.

I had several doctors tell me that it will get better when I have kids, too! When I told them I don't ever want to have kids, they just gave me *that* look and said "you're young, you'll change your mind". Made me want to cut a b*&^%.

I finally got a doctor to help me when I threatened to sue them if they didn't.
  • Sometimes BC does not work for endometriosis. You might have to have a D&C for that condition. I myself do not have that condition but I had cysts and was in a very bad car accident and they wanted to do a hysterectomy on me when I was 19 but did not go through with it. I was told I could not have kids. I went and changed OB/GYN and had surgery and long and behold went on to have two beautiful children that I cherish very much. Hang in there. There is hope.

It's rough, I'm going through some pretty terrible pain right now too. I've had a bowel resection and an ovary removed due to the endo. I try to work out through it when it's not too bad because sometimes a good workout really helps, but when the pain is especially terrible I just can't do it.

Any doctor that tells you babies are a cure for endometriosis is severely uneducated on the condition and you should probably find another doctor who doesn't prescribe to such old wives’ tales- there is no scientific evidence backing that theory and any endometriosis specialists would not recommend it as a cure or even short term solution. I’ve had a couple gyn’s say that to me and I just laugh… and then find a new doctor. Any gyno I’ve had that really knows about endo will outright say that having a baby isn’t going to help anything, except to alleviate possible anxiety you may have over not being able to conceive and if you do want to conceive trying to do so sooner rather than later is a wise choice when dealing with endometriosis.

yes, i hate it! it can ruin your life...i've suffered for a long time, but i finally got relief. I had surgery at the Center for Endometriosis Care in Atlanta. They truly understand this disease and don't just fob you off, or suggest birth control or having a baby, etc. Their surgical technique is the only thing that helped me. I was told that i'd never be pain free, but it's soooo much more bearable and manageable.

BC is not a solution, it's a bandaid! I was on it for years but it just meant that I had no period it didn't get rid of the endo. It needs to be removed as much as possible.

I hope you get some relief!

I absolutely know what you mean! I have been waiting for over a year now to get in and see the specialist for a hysterectomy because no insides are better to me than constantly being in pain. And not being able to leave the house for 2 days a month!

Oh yeah. Was on BC at 13 to try and combat this but really struggle with that too as it does not seem to help long term and I've had to keep switching types, some of which have contributed to piling on the pounds.

I actually find that the pain has been a little better generally since I started working out and I try to make sure I do at least an hour a day in the few days before I'm due. Can still knock me down though and just too painfull to move much.

Would definately recommend that you see doctor and explore the options mentioned by other posters and try to fit in a little extra work on the days when you can!!

Boy do I remember that pain! I would be curled up in a ball on my bed with a heating pad and just could not move...

I was put on BC, got injections, and was prescribed paid medication to ease the pain. When I learned I was unable to have children, I had a hysterectomy.

I feel for anyone who is/has suffered from this.

I could write a book here. I had it in my early teens - was put on BC at 17 for 10 years - had a laparoscopy to burn it out at 25 years old - upgraded the drugs to Depo-Provera - which at the time I thought was a miracle cure. Pain came back with a vengeance in 5 years - at 30 had a partial hysterectomy - and at 34 was diagnosed with breast cancer. No genetic link - and my cancer doctors all agreed the "fluke" that triggered teh cancer was young age hormone manipulation. Happy to say I am cancer free, but I agree - drugs are a bandaid and the risks outweigh the benefit. Do yourself a favor and explore the opinion of endo specialists. Best wishes.
