My flexibility and strength are not what I would like them to be. My mind doesn't understand that my body is 100 lbs lighter yet..... So where do I start? I see people posting about JM Body Revolution, Insanity, Shred.....they all sound intimidating! I have been run/walking and riding my bicycle but want something else to add to mix.

Shred would be good place to start. Congrats on your weight loss!!0

Most of the videos you hear about are on youtube. I watch them there and change it up when I want a new one.0

Shred is soooooo good!! LOVE Jillian Michaels! I would def suggest doing that DVD first so you can see what Jillian is all about. And then I'd suggest Body Revolution after your 30 Days of the Shred. Good Luck!
P.S. YOu can find 30DS on youtube and I believe Netflix for free.0 -
For strength and flexibility, I can't think of anything better than astanga yoga. The fittest people I know are astanga yoga nuts. But that's only if it clicks with you. If it doesn't, and it's just intolerable and boring, then definitely don't do that.0

I'd recommend swimming for flexibility.0

Tae bo burns 800 calories on 40 min workouts and got be in the best shape of my life before..doing it again.0

30 Day Shred is my favorite for getting up to par from ground zero. You *will* be very sore the first few days. Do it anyway...working it out will lessen the soreness and you will see huge gains quickly in strength.
I couldn't do a single pushup when I started and I had to do it using no weights for the first few days/week. I could do multiple sets of pushups by the end and was using 8lbs for shoulder exercises.
For flexibility, yoga of any kind is always good. I also like Cathe Friedrich's Stretch Max. Simple stretches for the entire body. I do some of them every day.0 -
The Turbo jam series is really fun and can be modified to be easier or harder depending on how you are feeling (plus it comes with 5 different workouts so you can mix it up with cardio, abs, strength training, etc).
Tony Horton's 10-minute trainer is surprisingly effective (and hey... who doesn't have 10 minutes). It comes with 5 work outs -- you can stack them if you want a full work out.
Then I'm a huge fan of zumba. I've got a few different DVDs which are fun, but honestly, my favorite one is free on Youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uDgbBdS9W540 -
I respectfully disagree. Jillian Michael's 30 Day Shred is a joke! As are all of her so-called "strength training" DVDs.
1. They use barbie-size dumbbells so it's not strength training, it's cardio using light weights. Which is great for burning calories but it will do nothing to increase your strength in any measurable way.
2. She provides very little instruction on proper form so you risk injury if you choose to use heavy weights.
3. There is no progressive overload.
4. Volume isn't varied.
5. Proper warm-up and cool-down/stretch isn't included.
I could go on and on if time allowed.
If you must strength train by watching DVDs at home, then I recommend the following two DVDs:
First, "Power Body Strength Training with Rob Glick" Here it is on Amazon:
http://www.amazon.com/Power-Body-Strength-Training-Glick/dp/B0013UYXOK/ref=sr_1_9?s=movies-tv&ie=UTF8&qid=1359489270&sr=1-9&keywords=power+body
Second, "Power Body: Kettlebell Bootcamp with Angie Miller" Here it is on Amazon:
http://www.amazon.com/Power-Body-Kettlebell-Bootcamp-Miller/dp/B001GIJRP4/ref=sr_1_1?s=movies-tv&ie=UTF8&qid=1359490954&sr=1-1&keywords="power+body"
My local library has both of these so check your library. For flexibility and balance, try yoga. Good luck!0 -
^^ yes please tell this to the many MANY people who have gotten stronger and who have lost weight from her DVDs. No one said she was showing you how to lift weights and be a bodybuilder. lol0

For someone who has not done this kind of stuff before, I think JM is a good start.Op can then progress to your suggestions.0 -
Flexibility - Yoga
Strength - anything from JM (Jillian Michaels' programs) to New Rules of Lifting for Women (gym or home) or Jamie Eason LiveFit Trainer (best for gyms or at home gyms).
You can do Insanity, I've noticed an increase in my body weight strength, Turbo Fire/Jam or JM for both F&S, P90X, it's all up to what you are ready to commit time & money to.0 -
Love 30 Day Shred! You will be sore, but it's a great place to start. The moves are simple (jumping jacks, push ups, lunges, squats, etc) so there is not major choreography to learn which makes it more do-able. I really like it, you will be sore the first week but your body will adapt.0
