Polar FT7 HELP!

So, my BRAND SPANKING NEW Polar FT7 came in the mail today.. I was super excited to work out tonight so I put it on and did work... every ten minutes throughout my work out my watch kept saying my HR was lost or it was 00.

I had the strap on correct directly under my bra line, and the detector was right side up and in the center. I got the strap wet on the rubber looking part before starting, but I sweat A LOT, so I don't think moistness should be a problem..

ANY ONE HAVING THESE PROBLEMS?

I have that problem sometimes too. When it happens I readjust the strap and that seems to take care of it. I'm not sure if it's interference from the underwire of my sports bra or what??

Man, I'm so upset! That thing was $70! Errrrrr. I tried readjusting it over and over, never picked up my heart rate again until I stopped that workout completely and started a new one

Ive had one for years, its a Polar and F7 sounds right. Mine does that too sometimes. I wet the whole back side of the sensor with water and put it on. I also make sure that I wash it off after exercising as it can get salt residue on the ridges and then it doesn't work properly. I would call the 1-800 # for Polar and ask them about it since it is brand new. Good Luck. I love mine, it seems to make me work harder, hoping I can burn more calories.

Occasionally mine would show that message. It was usually when it was directly under the bottom elastic of my bra and the elastic would roll. I try to wear it about an inch below the elastic now. Love my FT7.

I dowse my strap in water (run it back and forth under a tap about five times) I also wait for the heart diagram to be shaded then I hit the start button again.

I never have to wet my strap before use and mine works great. I do tuck my band entirely under my sports bra/bra the entire way around however. I find if I just have them below the band of my bras that the band pushes the sensor away from good contact with my skin. Also make sure the strap is tight enough, if it is easy to say rotate the strap around yourself it is too loose. If you are still having problems definitely get in touch with customer support.

Thanks Everyone. I thought I had it tight, maybe I'll put it tighter tonight. It reads my HR at first and is good for about 10 minutes, then says it can't read my HR. So frustrating! Especially since I'm so excited to use it. Maybe my bra was messing with it?.. Hmm. Ill try putting it UNDER my bra this time instead of below.

We switched to using electrode gel..seems to make it work a lot more reliably for us.Costs a little more but still pretty reasonable and a little should go a long way.

Ok.. So I just read somewhere that the sensors are in the stretchy part of the strap.. not the leathery piece?!

The sensors are mesh panels on the front. I only had this issue when the strap was too big (FT7 comes with a Med-XXL Strap.) I bought the XS-M strap and was fine.

I had to tighten mine and make sure it's as high on my chest as my boobs will allow! (Under my bra) I also have to make sure the strips are nice and soaked with water. It kept crapping out on me until I started doing all of these things, and ever since it's been consistent in reading my heart rate.

Get the sensor wet... I had issues too until I did that. Was awkward running with a wet spot on my shirt, but it worked... and soon enough I was sweaty anyway

ETA: also, make sure you wash the strap at least once a week.

I second that advice. I found a thread about it on Amazon and order Buh Bump (I think that's the name) and I haven't lost the signal since (mine was fitted and under my sports bra and still used to come in and out in 10 or 15 minute segments). Just remember to rinse it out good and do weekly thorough washes.

Ok, maybe I'm just stupid.. because I'm still not understanding which part to soak. fml.

It's the offcolored patches on the back that are the sensors, make sure those are wet. Also it might have been stored for a long time before shipment, the watch battery may need to be replaced. You can also wipe down the sensors and the the plug ins with rubbing alcohol then rinse to remove anything that might be interfering. I clean mine like that every couple of months as the salt and minerals can build up.

Exactly, I was just thinking maybe you were wetting the wrong part since you mentioned "leather". On mine, it's the grey stretchy material that you wet.

There are two of them to wet. I think that will fix your problem. :)

    Good luck!

On the front are two almost mesh looking parts...make sure those are wet BUT not too wet! Also make sure the strap it tight around you (no wiggle room). As someone mentioned make sure it is not on top of your sports bra.

My whole strap is black. No different colored sections with the leathery rubber thing in the front inside where the thing snaps on the front...

I'm just going to throw the whole thing in a tub of water and put it on -__-

    lol, Thanks everyone!!!!

Yes you need to wet the grey looking parts! and make sure it doesnt interfere with your bra, I put mine under the liner on my workout top, works fine for me. I did have it stop once but it was because it was caught on my top!

Nevermind, I'm not familiar with that model of transmitter strap...

Did you get the HRM directly from Polar or from somewhere else?

Mine used to do it sporadically, now it's with almost every workout. Very annoying. I've been playing with the placement, and so far it seems to work better if I put it a little lower on my chest, below where my sports bra falls. It feels a little weird at first, but so far that seems to be working. I'm thinking the sports bra band was somehow messing with the chest strap, causing the error reading.

You have one of the newer straps. I just got one for Christmas (Polar Wearlink + Bluetooth) and it doesn't have the two mesh pieces that my FT7 does. One thing you might check is the battery. My new HRM transmitter had a low battery right from the factory. They cost about $7 for a two pack and you can probably pick them up at any pharmacy store or a Walmart.

I still run my new one under water although I don't know where it would soak up the water at since it's all the same material on the inside.

I had no idea how it was going to hold water either. Replace the battery in the snap in thing or in the watch??

I just replaced the one in the transmitter that attaches to the chest strap. And don't leave it on the strap when you're not using it. That will run the battery down faster.

Awesome! Going to do this TODAY. I just want to love my FT7 like everyone else :( lol
