Why do you think there are "bad" vs. "good" carbs? If you are not sensitive (like a gluten allergy) then it makes no difference for weight loss if you eat spagetti noodles or apples as long as you are in a calorie deficit.
  • ... if you eat spagetti noodles or apples as long as you are in a calorie deficit.

Not necessarily as if you solely ate noodles, you'll pick up other nutrients (and probably fat) rather than if you ate an apple.

For a list of health carbs, give Google a go. There are many sites which give good rundowns.

What do you think of as bad carbohydrates?

Simple and/or refined sugars metabolize very quickly and don't provide lengthy satisfaction. More complex carbohydrates digest more slowly and thus provide you longer satisfaction. There is no good or bad per se.

The whole sentence you quoted from was (emphasis added)
If you are not sensitive (like a gluten allergy) then it makes no difference for weight loss if you eat spagetti noodles or apples as long as you are in a calorie deficit.
What does the presence of other nutrients have to do with that? Also, are you implying that the other nutrients makes spaghetti a better choice, or worse? What about the other nutrients in an apple?

While I agree that there are no bad and good foods, those with huge carbs and high sugars like cakes, pastries, cookies etc are best kept as occasional treats.
  • I just need a list.

of what? There are no good or bad carbs, just carbs. Sugar is a carb which can have negative effects like cravings, sugar crashes etc. Some carbs are low GI and give you a slower, more regular energy boost. But carbs are carbs. My personal rule is - if you eat it the way it comes out of the ground, it's better than one that comes out of a packet.
  • Thank you ill try google

You don't seem to want a thought out answer... If you are going to put in the research time, I suggest you read up on issues related to carbs and why they have becomes considered bad and/or good rather than just looking for a list, any of which list you find will be as hotly contested as the conversation you found here...

There is no such thing as "bad carbs". But there is such a thing as "too big a portion size"!!! 50g of white pasta isn't going to do anything bad, 500g on the other hand. And one white bread sandwich is a fine meal, however, two sandwiches, let alone white breaded sandwiches, is too much.

A list would be long. Generally, when someone says "bad carbs" they mean grains that have been processed to remove the bran and germ (white flour, bread, pasta, etc.) and added sugars (table sugar, honey, syrups, etc.)

You seem to just want a list of what carbs are "good" or "bad" but I'm not quite sure what that means but I'll try to help. Check out this link.

what if it's whole grain with added sugar?

    mind = blown
  • Thanks anyways didn't need that but okay *kitten* why do people even comment if there gonna be so ****ing rude
You're the one being rude. You posted a question and people responded with useful answers which you rudely dismissed and continue to demand a list.

There's no definitive 'list' of bad carbs, all carbs are carbs and that's that. Any list you do find will be subject to opinion and not factual. That's all people are trying to tell you.

Why don't you go do the research and make your own list of what you believe to be 'bad carbs' based on the information you've read.

    Bad carbs:

The mythical things people selling plans and fad diets want you to believe are bad, so that you will give them money.

Seriously - there's no such thing as an overlying "bad carb."

People are going to argue with your choice of words, but here's a list that are more and less healthy. Of course, it's the total calories that counts, not the specific food. But there's more fiber (good for bowel health, good for making you feel fuller etc) in some kinds. And more protein in some kinds.

In general, I tend to go for:
    - Brown rice
    - Wholewheat pasta
    - Wholegrain bread
    - Rye bread
    - Oats
    - Quinoa
    - Brown sugar
    - Honey

    And limit:
    - White bread
    - White pasta
    - White sugar
    - Potatoes (That one is contentious. My problem is that i tend to eat chips and fries - with all the oil. Baked or boiled potatoes are just fine)

Good luck and I think it's great you're trying to learn more about what's nutritious to eat.

No one was rude to you. Be respectful for the people who took time to come try to help you or find some other website. No room for people with this attitude here.

I think what you are going for are the carbs that are better for you so I'll start there...

    1) Whole Grain Pasta
    2) Oatmeal
    3) Brown Rice
    4) Whole Grain Breads
    5) Quinoa (good source of protein too)

Though there are no "good" carbs vs. "bad" carbs these in this list are BETTER for you. Try and reduce your white flour/sugar/white rice intake and substitute some of these others...also attempt lower your processed food intake, it will help greatly with weight loss...

Not sure why some people feel the need to be snarky. I have PCOS so there ARE INDEED BAD CARBS where I am concerned. I am to avoid "white" foods.... pasta, white flour, potatoes...... I get my carbs from veggies mostly. Cabbage is high is carbs so I eat it in moderation.

What in the world do you mean? You should go pick up Dr. Atkins book and you will learn all about carbohydrates and their effect on your body. You can also visit their website www.atkins.com and if you join you will get a free start up kit with a free carb counter ect. You need to read more books. No offense. ;) I'm counting carbs as well. :)

This is essentially how I think of it as well. For me, it's not good or bad so much as complex and simple carbs.

There are some very good books that will give you a lot of information about glycemic load, which is more complicated than the gluycemic index (there is a lot of math involved). If you are worried about insulin spikes due to health issues, make sure you are pairing your carbs with protein and fat.

I'm pretty careful about processed and simple carbs, but carbs are in everything. I eat a lot of vegetables, and some fruit, so I have no trouble hitting my carb macro without the simple carbs included in my diet.

Key words "Where I am concerned"

You have a medical condition that means you have to limit your carb intake. Most people do not have a medical condition. Therefore, they do not need to worry so much about carb restriction.
