not eating fat=no period?

Hello.So I have this problem that I didn't have my period for a very long time..Like 6 months now.It was gone before maybe for a year but then I gained weight and it came back again. And now it's gone again.I thought that it was because I lost weight when it disappeared but ALSO at that time I thought that eating FAT will MAKE me FAT.So I didn't eat any fats at all...And now,that I know how stupid I was, I've been eating a good amount of them for a month and my period didn't come back yet...
Any advise,ladies?Did anyone had a problem like that?
I'm sorry if it all sounds such a stupid thing to do.I didn't know what is a 'good nutrition' for a long time and I feel so stupid now for avoiding such an important food like fats...

Yes, you NEED a healthy amount of fat everyday to make your body function properly.
Low fat and no fat ways of eating mess with your hormones badly and end up having the female issues your experiencing.0 -
Also, what is your body fat percentage? If your body fat drops too low, you'll lose your period. How much are you working out? That's common in very top female athletes during peak training periods.0

I forgot to mention that now that I started eating more fat my BELLY got smaller!And I lost two pounds.I couldn't lose weight anymore when I wasn't eating them...0

No fat in your diet will cause many problems. Also - how many calories are you netting each day? Eating too little, or decreasing your body fat too much will also cause your period to stop. You should see a doctor to make sure that there isn't something else going on too.0

weight loss causing a period disturbance can definitely happen - as can not consuming enough fat in your diet.
if you have a history of thyroid disorder that is also a very common cause, I would suggest asking your doctor personally - take the things you read on here with a grain of salt0 -
I don't know what my body fat percentage is but it should be around 21-23.My weight is 115 lbs and I am 5"3 . I exercise 6 days a week for ~1 hour .My body fat is no way too low and I wouldn't say that 1hour of exercise is a lot...Right now I'm doing braziliian butt lift and max capacity training ( body weight exercises) .0

Fat is important for hormone regulation so it's understandable why that would happen. I don't menstruate so my knowledge of menstrual cycles is similar to a man lol. I'd say go to the doctor and wait to see if you begin menstruating again.0

I had my period stop once in college, went I cut fat drastically out of my diet. My doctor told me that fat is what carries the hormones and you need some in your diet! Course, I didn't really miss my period, but I like things to work like they should be working!0

My period went missing for 6 months. I thought I was pregnant, but several tests (including at the doctors) told me I wasn't. My doctor took some blood tests to check hormone levels and basic stuff. There was nothing wrong with me.
She suggested I try losing some weigh, because rapid weight gain can cause it.
I got mine back a month ago...Before I started trying to lose weight. I have no idea what happened. Should be due again now, but nothing so far. My body is weird :P.0 -
You might want to go see a doctor. There are a lot of reasons you might not be getting your period - all unrelated to body fat and fat in the diet. If it was me I would want to make sure it wasn't something a little more serious........0

Fat is an essential part in some of the molecules which form an integral role in your reproductive system, so it could be a possibility.
I would see a doctor though.0 -

My daughter still had not gotten her period by the time she was 16. She was a black belt in karate and was in excellent physical shape. She was about your size at the time and her doctor said her body fat was to low. Have you had your body fat checked by your doctor. It may be lower than you think. Otherwise you may just need to give it a bit longer for your body to adjust. She cut back on her workouts and within 6 months she was having regular periods.0

This is your previous post. It is basically the same message you have here worded in a different way. Your profile says you are 100 years old. Clearly, something is wrong that you are seeking attention of this type is a public forum, I'm sorry that you feel the need to do that.
I would strongly suggest instead of a message board, that you see assistance from a counselor and a proper dietician. I assure you, that you are eating fat, but need some education on good fats vs bad fats and healthy diet and exercise program.0 -

Don't know if you found a good answer. I don't know your age, but at 30 years old I was diagnosed with diabetes and PCOS. Look it up. The doctor (who is now my favorite Doctor) said two things when I walked in his door: 1) How long have you been diabetic? 2) You must stop the low-fat dieting. I was almost 300 pounds. I started eating Meat and Veggies. No pasta, bread, processed foods. Lost 90 pounds and the rest is history.
Most people must have fat. If you are PCOS, you absolutely need fat and protein and balanced, and your balance will be different.
Mind you, I went without periods for years. I started early, but had one a year and sometimes fewer. About a year before being diagnosed, I had constant, daily bleeding. Other doctors said "when the bleeding stops, we will run tests." He said "eat protein and fat, and you will lose weight and the bleeding will stop."
In about a year, I was regulated by diet and exercise. After that, when I ate off, my period was off and when I resumed, it was back. My period became my barometer for health. Get yourself a good doctor and see if this could be you. If you are young, you will save many years of woe...hope this helps if you hadn't found a good answer for you yet. ;-) Oh, and "no medical need"??? It's a barometer of your health and should occur...whatever it is will probably progress and I heard that line several times as well as I got sicker and sicker... Also, research endometriosis...if you have all over body aches, not normal. I have had that line before as well. Lost GOOD jobs over health...0 -
I dunno.. I find it extremely hard to avoid fat and I am eating clean... perhaps you need to go see a doctor. Training hard will cause your periods to stop, although I think this won't happen unless you have very low BF%..0
