I am 5'0" and right now 198lbs. I wanted to know mow much protein my body can actually use from a single meal? I know it's a certain amount that the body will use at a time from a single meal but can't remember how much. What happens to the rest of the protein that isn't used up?

hmm. my nutritionist told me that the female body can use 50 grams of protein at a time. and everything else gets stored - as fat. of course men can eat more.
it might be a good idea to talk to a nutritionist and ask how much protein you need every day, and how much you can personally eat at one time. it could be different amounts for individuals because of age, activity level, etc., and what the heck, it never hurts to ask.0 -
Thank you. That is what I thought as well but I didn't think the protein would get stored as fat. I just figured the excess protein would be filtered through the kidneys and flushed out. Hmmmm, I am going to have to do some research for real!hmm. my nutritionist told me that the female body can use 50 grams of protein at a time. and everything else gets stored - as fat. of course men can eat more.

Does your nutritionist have a degree in broscience?
Your first line indicates a gross misundertanding of human metabolism. Use for what? A % of the protein will be used for tissue repair and growth, the rest will be used for energy. There are no hard and fast numbers what that % is; it is highly variable, depends on hom much growth and repair the body wants to do. The body will digest all of the protein though. The process of storing anything that isn't fat as fat, de novo lipogensis, is an irrelevant process in a nornally functioning human. Protein not used for growth and repair will be turned into glycogen and burned through the glycogen energy pathways, not the fat energy pathways.0 -
Your body uses all the protein. If you have excess calories your body may convert these animal proteins into long-term lipid storage, but in a calorie maintenance or deficit situation animal proteins you ingest will converted by your body into protein which you can utilize.0

That's what I was thinking. I have had more than 50 grams of protein in the same meal, more than a few times, and still lost weight.0 -
wat????? whatever you eat, no matter how many grams of something, your body will use!0

ALL extra calories get stored as fat ..... extra protien, extra carbs ..... whatever. Your body can use excess protien in place of carbs (not efficient) .... but it does work.
This is why protien is important everyday. You body has FAT stores .... people on very low calorie diets will lose muscle tissue (as well as fat) because their bodies will break down existing muscle when protein is not available.0 -
