Lady Problems!

Ladies!! For men, viewer discretion is advised. (lol.)
I am new to this fitness and eating super good type of lifestyle... so as most newcomers do... I have a few kinks to work out...
The one I need help on right now is this:
It is that time of the month and it never fails that I feel hungry ALL OF THE TIME! I have failed, and snacked all day. lol. Nothing like candy but still.. I constantly eat. I know its probably just my horomones but I have no idea of how to overcome it and honestly I really feel hungry... even though I know I shouldn't be... and when you really feel that way, its hard to resist eating.
Does anyone else have the problem of your monthly causing you to be this way? If so, how do you overcome it! Ughh! Lady problems!

If you have access to food you are going to eat it. I am in the same position, TOM for me too. I was way off on day 1 since I didn't even know it was coming! (I am on a medication that stops my cycle, so definitely was a surprise) Second day I did a little better by snacking on veggies but ended up with broccoli breath *ick* and feeling over-full the rest of the day. Today however I limited the food around me and I did fine, didn't really crave anything since there was nothing to crave and have another 2ish hours until dinner and I think I can make it.
My lunch was a high protein pasta however so that might have something to do with why I am so controlled today haha.0 -
I have been on a pickled egg and graham cracker kick. I know, ewww. lol.
I guess when it comes this time I will have to take all of my foods home, because work is where I eat the most, and also I guess I shouldn't bring change to work either because we have a snack machine. haha.
This is really the only time that I honestly feel like I can get out of control eating wise. I could seriously get gluttonous!0 -
No real advice just can commiserate. Sucks being female sometimes.0

Try to keep healthy, low calorie options around. I have controlled periods (only 4 a year - yay!) so that time isn't much of an issue for me... but anytime it's cold out I'm STARVING. I live in the Northeast - so I'm ravenous from November - March, moreso on days 20 and below. I eat celery, drink lots and lots of tea, and lots and lots of water. The tea seems to help, just because it's got some flavor to it. And I'll snack on nuts - 2-3 a time to make them last - or celery, or fruit. Whatever it is eating it slowly seems to help.0

I get hungry during that time of the month too. What really helps me is to listen to my body. When it's hungry I eat (especially healthy protein).
Here's the kicker though: Toward the end of my cycle, I’ve noticed that I am WAY less hungry than usual. I used to eat anyway (worried about metabolism or just using “I have to eat” as an excuse, lol). NOW I don’t eat as much if I’m not truly hungry. I find that the ravenous times are balanced by these couple days not being hungry.0 -
I don't feel ravenous but I get a little bit of cravings for big sweets like cake etc. oh, and of course chocolate. I just indulge...a little. I used to eat several pieces of chocolate a day and now I may have one or 2 chocolate kisses or such one day out of that week. Otherwise I may eat something else like yogurt. Even if I splurge and have more, usually I have enough calories leftover from previous days that I don't worry about it. I tend to look at the whole week vs. just one day of calories. Eat a few less here, eat a few more there....it all equals out in the end.0

The week before menstruation, I have huge desires to eat even when I'm not hungry. I know your pain. I just make sure that I have a TON of readily available, low cal foods. I also tend to drink WAY more tea during that week, in (a sometimes vain) attempt to keep the muchies at bay. This usually works well enough.
I also plan ahead in another way. The few days before my "bad" week, I'll work out a bit extra and "save up" some calories, so if I do have a big eating day, I've padded it a bit and I won't feel upset if/when it happens.
Relying on willpower alone sucks so have a game plan and try not to be caught unawares. Good luck!0
