Is this muscle gains???

H,

I have a dilemma......... I am 30 years old, 6ft tall, 254 pounds 25% body fat. Since the new year I have hit the weights and treadmill pretty hard. I keep my daily calories at a deficit of about 600 calories. I always stay in the ballpark of around 2,100 cals a day. My goal is to lose weight to get to 10% body fat. I currently find the numbers on the scale rising. This cant be due to pour nutrition/over eating so is this MUSCLE GAINS? I was always told that its not possible to build muscle at a caloric deficit. Can you please explain what's going on because I'm getting a little frustrated. THANKS!!!

if you are new to weightlifting the gain in weight may be due to water weight while your muscles repair. Muscle building at a calorie deficit is not possible for experienced lifters but for new lifters it is possible to get some gains at a deficit as your body adjusts as since you have the excess weight it has fat store to get energy from to build the muscle
