HIIT

What do people think of HIIT training, I stopped the exercise for january to try tackle my diet which had got abit out of control before xmas but want to start hitting the gym again. I find cardio boring especially for long periods and have a gym at work which i use on my lunch break. Thinking of trying HIIT which would fit in around work be less boring etc but is this a good way to burn fat?? or is the gruelling 45 min workout better?

20 minutes of HIIT is much better than 45 minutes of steady state cardio for fat burning! do it!!0

I do Les Mills Body Attack and it's so much fun. Doing HIIT is way more interesting than running on a treadmill0

It's recently been coming back into fashion, and some recent research (i know this is daily mail, I couldn't find the right article http://www.dailymail.co.uk/health/article-2255867/Is-minutes-week-exercise-need-fit-Scientists-say-ideal-fitness-regime-involves-intense-bursts-activity.html) has shown that it's good for weight loss, but then there's plenty of information out there that says it's not any better (article against http://stronglifts.com/hiit-interval-training-fat-loss/).
I do it because, like you, I find long periods of cardio really boring, and it doesn't fit in my lunch slot. If you haven't done anything for quite a while, then it may be worth doing some regular cardio a bit first, and then introduce HIIT gradually as by definition it's High Intensity which can really strain the body if it's not ready for it.0 -
thanks all I think I'm prob best to start a bit of slow going exercise first don't want to kill myself! hoping this will help spped up my weight loss although I find it really hard to eat clean when I exercise!0

I love long cardio sessions as a sort of meditation - zone out, constant hr, mini challenges and epic calorie burn to justify the mixed grill afterwards.
But HIIT is also fabulous for bringing the pain and making you feel totally exhilarated in a different way. Long cardio is more zen; HIIT is more pounding out aggression for a real return.
Ultimately, you're active and pushing it doing either and combined with a decent diet and a deficit you're going to get fitter and lose fat. Do what fits in with your lifestyle and yourself psychologically.0 -
Take a look at:

There are other links within the article worth reading as well.0 -
There is an article on it in the Daily Mail today:
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-2270901/Can-really-fit-FOUR-MINUTES-day-Its-hot-new-exercise-craze-And-amazingly-worked-exhausted-guinea-pig.html
I see BBC also repeated the Horizon program last night - The Truth About Exercise - which also covered HIIT, although in the study the effects seem to depend on the individual.
I have not tried it myself, but I think if you use it to supplement your normal training on days when you are busy, then you certainly can't be any worse off for doing it.0 -
I do it quite often .I am too tired after 25 mins to continue, then I do normal cardio on treadmill.0

I love HIIT and Tabata training. Have reduced my cardio this month and increased the weights/HIIT and seeing massive progress0
