Does anyone workout 7 days a week?

Why is it bad?

Don't some people ride their bike or walk for transportation everyday?

I have an office job and drive a car so wondering why I even need a rest day. Can I work out moderately 7 days a week?

If you feel up for it, definitely. It will also heavily depend upon what you are doing for a workout as well.

Be warned, you're probably about to be flooded with a bunch of posts from people swearing that if you don't take rest days you will overtrain/overreach/catch AIDS/spontaneously combust, etc.
  • You're SUPPOSED to get mild/moderate exercise every single day! I think the advice to have a rest day is for people who are pushing themselves very very hard - it would be detrimental to do a crazy workout every day of the week because you need to let your body recover. However, mild and moderate exercise (like people who walk/bike to work or take their dogs to the park every day for instance) doesn't require a rest day at all.

    I do.

I dance 6 or 7 days (I'm an instructor). On top of that, 2 days lifting, 1 day paddleboarding, 1 day road cycling.

no reason you cant. hard core athletics and weight lifters take brakes to let their bodies rest and recoup. i work out 7 dayz a week. at least 1-2 hrs a day and occationally i take a day off to rest.

Both of us work out everyday, but we also listen to our bodies. Last Saturday was my impromptu rest day because I added weighted gloves to boxing on Thursday and heavier dumb bells to strength training on Friday- too much for my back. Today is his rest day because his ankles are sore from new activities and new shoes. At least I hope it was his rest day. I have to rehearse saying no to food, he has to rehearse saying no to soccer.

Depends on your definition of working out...I'm active 7 days per week, but I don't do an intense workout 7 days a week. My muscles and heart need time to recover from being intensely over tasked. Recovery, particularly when you're talking about muscle development is just as important as the workout itself because it's the recovery that actually develops the muscle...the workout itself is just the catalyst.

That said, just because it's a rest day doesn't mean I do nothing and just lay in bed or sit on the couch...I go for walks or ride my bike or hike a trail, etc...but those things are just not a "workout" for me, they are just being active and moving.
