Calories in veggies/fruit

My mom is a nurse so I have been going by her advice about not needing to record veggies and fruits, but IDK if that's right. What is everyone doing. Are you logging your fruit and veggie calories or no?

  • yea of corse.. even fruit and veg can add up to a lot of calories especially things like banana, potatoes, etc. I don't get my knickers in a knot though if my diary goes over on sugar allowance due to fruit & veg.

I add all calories from food to my diary, everything counts.

I log everything that I eat, as close as I can. I figure if it has calories it counts.

I don't know about everyone else but I log fruit because of the sugar content. I know it's healthy for ya but it's still sugar. I think she may be right with the vegetables. I don't think anybody gained any extra weight by eating an extra bowl of Broccoli or Carrots.

My diet consists of mainly veggies and fruit. It adds up. I consume between 1500 and 2500 with a high emphasis on veggies, fruits and then some nuts/seeds and small amounts of dairy. I would log it. It's food.

I WISH I didn't log veggies and fruits - then I'd eat a pile of bananas and avocados and corn and peas and get fat.

But seriously. A significant portion of my daily calories comes from vegetables and fruit - over 200 calories at dinner, 200 at breakfast, and more for snacks and at lunch - and I think ignoring that would be doing myself a disservice.

Log everything except water & air.... only those have no calories. Sorry but anyone who says NOT to log fruit & veg are in denial about it all still.... I'm shocked a nurse would think it's not important enough though.

All Fruits and vegetables have calories why wouldn't you log them? That makes no sense, if you are here to track calories.
Fruits are generally higher due to sugar content. For example 1 tangerine is 50 calories. A large banana is 200 cal.
A large ear of corn ~100 calories (no butter)

I'm vegan soooooo if I didn't log them I'm not sure what I'd log. They still have calories.

I have been wondering about this lately, and considered not logging them, but reading this topic, has told me not to be so stupid. Although I can see where she is coming from, other diets have unlimited fruit and veg as I guess it's better to eat them than something else that's not healthy. Here's to logging fruit and veg!
