One week - 4lbs gained = Depression

Really saddened to say that I gained 4 lbs this week. At least that is what the scales says. I also had 2 really bad binge days but how in the hell could that make me gain 4lbs. So turns out I've only lost 7lbs since Nov 1st. My belly is the worst area. Im wondering why can't I have what it takes for those girls that do Fitness Model. My God, there are woman out there that had like 4 kids and can still rock the stage in a bikini. I would be booed off stage if I went on. I look good with clothes on but damn my belly is terrible, can even suck it in-- It still protrudes. Is it from pregnancy (had my son a year ago though)?, is it from insulin needles? (Im type 1 for over 20years) or is it both combined. I want to cry. Why can't I have this? Why? Why? Why?

Deep breath. Your scale says you gained 4 lbs. OK - weight fluctuates every day, all the time. During that binge period how many calories did you eat? Did you track it? How much sodium? For 4 lbs of FAT you'd have needed 14,000(!!!) calories in excess. That's about 12 medium pizzas. I doubt you ate that much, so some of the gain could be water. Some could be water retention in your muscles, if you exercised.

Don't be depressed, just keep going , eating, logging, exercising, and over time you'll see the weight drop.

I'm sure we'd all love to have good genes and rock a bikini after 4 kids, but we're thankfully all different. Love your body :)

PS: As type 1 diabetic, are you following the kind of diet you should be? Perhaps a talk with a nutritionist is in order.

My diet is good but on a day that I binge like last night was - $1 worth of 5cent sour candy, sweettarts, Twix bar and a 200g bag of ketchup chips!!!! I would say 1500-2000 cals right there on top of my normal 1500cal day. So I doubled my day yesterday. Did that twice this week. I had to take alot of insulin to cover the amounts of sugar I ate. Good thing I have a good start today and I hope to keep it that way. I also am determined that after 1 kid that I should be able to get rock hard abs with flatness - but can I? will my body let? I fear the unknown!!!!
  • Hang in there. U have people here in the same boat. DO NOT GIVE UP. IF I DO NOT GIVE UP, U DO NOT GIVE UP. TRY JUMPING ROPE. U LOOK GREAT TO ME.

Just so I could show people what in the hell Im talking about. lol. Anyways, I don't want to end up skinny with a fat belly, That would look so weird.

Whatever you do dont give up. Today is a new day. Tomorrow will be a new day too. Take one day at a time. We all have bad days and sometimes bad weeks. As long as we dont stop trying we will get to where we want to be eventually! *hugs*

I really urge you to see a nutritionist. I glanced at your diary for the past 2 weeks. Many of the days you were at or well over 2500mg sodium, which can be a factor in the bloat in your belly. And with the diabetes, aren't you supposed to limit the amount of sugar you take in? Work with the nutritionist to find that balance.

Also watch your calorie count, for the last week you had alot of "quick add" calories. How accurate was that? That too can have unknown amounts of sodium and sugar which throw your body for a loop w/ the diabetes. And also look at your totals and compare them to your MFP weight loss goals. Some days you're a little under goal, other days you're well over goal (eating too much).

I'd suggest focus on tracking better.

I have seen a nutritionist too many times. Yes I am supposed to limit sugar in take - everybody is supposed to. I didn't realize the sodium was high so many days. When I quick add calories it is accurate but just on the caloric amount - no idea on the breakdowns (fat, carbs, sodium) I always eat my exercise calories back - maybe I should stop doing that?

And Wow! I didn't realize the amount of sodium in some of the grains Im eating! Like for instance, the Casa Mesa Wraps have 390mg in 1 wrap. The frozen chicken cutlets are up there too in the sodium. Thank you for bringing to my attention.

Sodium is a killer. You could retain 2 lbs of water just from eating a pickle even if it's in your calorie allowance.

I ate badly last Saturday and Sunday and it's taken from Monday to today to get back to where I was last Friday! We never like the consequences of our actions, do we? But do we dislike them enough to stop doing it? We'll never know if we can get those abs unless we do what it takes to get them with consistency. I've had two babies, one by c-section, and my highest weight was 215. I'm only 5'4"! So I know what you're saying about not knowing if you can have good abs or not. Next time you (and I) want to binge we need to ask ourselves if we're willing to deal with the consequences (weight gain, water retention, depression, disappointment). It's all about changing our thinking about it and taking the time to think it through before we put garbage in our mouths.
  • Just spent a week at my parents house. I drank wine to cope with their arguing and then binge ate after they went to bed. I did this 5 different times. Came home today and ate correctly. I exercised at their house but... at too much of crap food and snacks. I will NOT quit. I need to get back on track to feel good and be happy.

Nothing tastes as good as feeling thin.

Looking at your food diary, I don't see huge problems. You eat a lot of healthy, clean foods! Good job. There are a few things that are processed, but not a lot.

You seem to have big exercise days and then some days with no exercise. I just went back a few days, so I don't know if that is typical. I started losing better when I set my cardio goal as every day for at least 30 minutes. Then, I made a secret goal to myself of having 10 of those cardio sessions a week, and not just seven. That plus strength plus clean food moved the scale for me.

The tummy has been the slowest change, but I can see a difference.

You might try increasing the exercise for a while to see if it helps. And don't worry too much about the four pounds, although I'm sure it is making you nuts! Just keep on track!
