Hi All, I'm new here after logging my calories I realize although I am trying to eat healthy my calories are too low 800-1000 per day at best. I exercise 4 days a week mostly cardio burning 500-600 a day. I have a heart rate monitor that shows calorie burn. I losts 1.5 the 1st week of healthy eating and have gained 2.5 week two. If I increase my calories to 1200/day and still burn 600/day with cardio will I lose weight? or do I need to completely eat back my burned calories on top of the 1200? I feel like its too much and I am not creating a deficet to lose an weight. I'm 5'5" 45 and trying to lose 30lbs, I want to do it right. I've been trying to lose for 4 years and the scale goes up so maybe my calories are just too low. Help Please!! Thanks

MFP already gives you a deficit, without exercise. You will lose weight if you are in a deficit. You should be NETTING the number MFP gives you, if that is the system you are going to follow.

These are also good reads on setting your goals:

There is a thread and a sticky called 'Roadmap' something...it breaks everything down for you, including how to figure out numbers. It's an awesome read and helped me figure out all that fun stuff...lol. I would post the link but I have no idea how...lol.0

Logging will make a lot of difference.
see all the links above, but I tried to lose weight without logging my food
now I log and am losing and yes I eat back most of my exercise calories.
I can't really figure out how this is working but I must have been eating mindlessly.
I still get 3 good meals a day and snacks.0 -
i had to go and calculate my own BMR and do custom settings for calories, proteins, etc.0

Thanks for the info I will work to increase my calories. Are their any sample menus on this sight? Eating guidelines to keep us focused on healthful eating?0

Sample menus are your friends meals. you will see how much they get of each macro if the diaries are open. everyone is different but seeing other peoples diaries is a great place to start.0
