Does any one do this. Should I be hungry at bedtime, or am I not eating enough?

How much are you eating?0

No, I never go to bed hungry.
I wake up hungry, but if I'm hungry before I go to bed, then I won't sleep as well.0 -
I can't sleep when I am hungry so always keep some calories for the evening and have supper about 9pm.0

I never go to bed hungry. I typically go to bed pretty full, sometimes even uncomfortably full but it helps me sleep.0

I don't go to bed hungry. I'd rather delay eating for a few hours in the morning, and have a larger meal for my last meal.0

I don't usually feel hungry when I'm ready for bed, but I do try to have my last meal several hours before I start winding down. I'm not naturally a breakfast person, but I feel like a nice big breakfast helps me have a better day, so an early dinner is key for me. Also, I personally find that if I snack too close to bedtime, I end up with heartburn, which I can't stand. I'm what you might call a troubled sleeper, so I really have to give myself every chance I can for a good night.
Best of luck to you!0 -
I never go to bed hungry, it distracts me from a good night's sleep.0

i was at 1300 cal, but since reading road map I have upped it to 1650. Usually I was eating between 1100-1250. Too low isn't it?0

at least one other person asked but i will again how many calories per day are you eating?? ......and how much water are you drinking during the day? for me on days when i dont drink as much water as i should, i find myself hungry even though i've just eaten a couple hours before. not sure whether it's in your area but look for full bar protein shakes or the slim fast low carb shakes. they've got some kind of compound in there that helps you feel fuller longer and have less sugar than others i've seen on the shelves.0

Want to avoid frankenfoods. Any clean suggestions? Thanks for all the responses and advice.0

I never go to bed hungry! If I am legitimately hungry near bedtime, I eat something, even if it puts me over for the day.0 -

I usually eat around 1200, but never go to bed hungry. If you were going to bed hungry on that, it might be one of the instances where I'd agree that you were probaly eating too little or eating too many hours before going to sleep.
I can't sleep if I'm hungry at bed time.0 -

I can't sleep if I go to bed hungry. Last night I tried and ended up getting up and eating a handful of almonds. Then I was fine, sleep great.0

Best thing to keep you full, but still healthy:
Green smoothie
Kale (remove stems)
Blueberries
Green apple
Half a banana
One cup water
Ice (or frozen strawberries, yum)
Avocado, if you have enough fat calories left in the day
Flax seed or chia seed, ground
Almond milk
Play with the ingredients, but most of these ingredients are low calorie (except avocado, which is filling)
For those who need it a bit sweet, add some Truvia (stevia sweetener)-no artificial or sugar sweeteners though, cause you don't want too much glucose to release in your bloodstream (triggering you to store fat) in the evening.0 -
I go to bed hungry most of the time.. cause i hate feeling full while sleeping. its hurts. whatever feels better for you0
-
I almost always eat something within an hour of goign to bed. Cereal, peanut butter, protein bar/shake, cookies...I save calories for that because I know I will need it (but I don't typically eat until around noon or 1pm each day).0
-
Sometimes.
I have eaten between 2100 and 3000 daily calories during the past 18ish months, and even at those levels, I still occasionally go to bed feeling a little hungry.
If it is happening to you frequently, though, you should reconsider if you are at an appropriate calorie level. If so, then review your food diary on days you are hungry at the end of the day and look for a pattern. You may find that there is a correlation between insufficient protein or fats and feeling hungry, for example.0 -
I do all the time. when i finish my calories for the day... i shut it all down. If i find i get hungry at bedtime.. I can wait until the morning to eat and start the next day. I feel more in control when i can be hungry and realize i won't die. That it is part of mastering the skinny mentality. Skinny people eat when they get hungry..and they could be hungry for a few hours and don't freak.0

I think one question is how hungry is hungry. If I'm properly "I haven't eaten since lunchtime" hungry then I would eat some more (bear in mind that with your calorie levels if you go over by 100 calories you'll still be loosing weight, just more slowly). I quite often go to bed feeling "peckish", like I'd quite like some more to eat but that's not quite the same as hungry.0

Guilty. I try not to eat a few hours before going to sleep and I'll have my heaviest meal (ideally) at my breakfast or lunch and the lightest my dinner. If I'm absolutely starving before going to sleep or if I need to fill my calories then I'll have something like a Slim Fast or a non-fat yogurt. I may be wrong but I always thought it's best to not to eat before going to bed =/0

I never go to bed hungry, because it's really difficult for me to fall asleep while hungry, and I'll inevitably wake up halfway through the night from hunger pangs. I actually keep a small container of whole almonds on my desk in my bedroom, and if I'm hungry, but not enough to be worth making a cheese sandwich or whatever, I'll just eat a few of those right before bed to satiate myself.0

The only reason not to eat close to sleeping is if it negatively affects your sleeping. (Meal timing has no/almost no impact on weight loss.)0 -
Being hungry prevents me from relaxing and getting to sleep. I wait a while and if I'm still hungry I get up and eat a bowl of cereal or drink a glass of milk. That usually satisfies me and the next thing I know it's morning. Whatever calorie goal you set for yourself, just make sure to log what you ate at night. You may find that if you don't add those calories on a regular basis, it won't matter if you adjust your goal. Or adjust it up to 1400 calories from 1200 (which in my opinion is too low if you are getting some exercise in). Regardless, good luck and be good to yourself. We do not have to suffer, just be smart.0

I'm not trying to argue, but didn't you contradict yourself a little bit? "If i find i get hungry at bedtime.. I can wait until the morning to eat and start the next day." And then, "Skinny people eat when they get hungry." If skinny people always eat when they're hungry, like you're saying, they'd eat before bed when they're hungry, whether they're finished with their calories or not, right?
Besides that, I've heard many times in the past that intentionally keeping yourself hungry slows down your metabolism. I just have to wonder if going to bed hungry frequently would have much effect on your metabolism. I'm no doctor, so I don't know, just a thought.0 -

Not sure what skinny people you hang with but when this skinny girl wants food, I get food.
There is no reason to be hungry ever when dieting.. you can be satisfied and still lose weight.0 -
going to bed genuinely hungry is the worst!! My tummy burns, my heart races and I cant sleep. I feel like my blood is toxic.
Even just a boiled egg or som egg whites is enough to calm it all down.
I dont believe you have to eat much to get rid of that feeling, just something thats solid enough thats its not going to wear off in 10 mins0 -
Depends on what time I fall asleep but, as a general rule, no. Sometimes I go to bed at 10:00, only to be awake two hours later and end up getting hungry. But I'm usually too lazy to get up and eat at that time.0
-
No, I can't go to bed hungry. I sometimes wake up at 4 am because I am hungry and can't sleep. Some yoghurt or fruit helps. I bought a mix of chia seeds with fibre in it. A tablespoon is 65 calories and I do feel full because of it.0
