scale vs. measure for success

I have been on my "journey" to a healthier me, since April 2010. It's been a LONG LONG road, and this past year has been a real struggle, maintaining the loss I have accomplished.

One of my biggest hurdles, has been trying to wrap myself around the thought that I'm NOT what my scale says. My number isn't me. Blah blah blah.

Truth be told, I'm obsessed, or atleast I was(read on to find out why..) with weighing myself 10-20times a day! And each and everytime, I would actually take the time to strip down to NOTHING, make sure I'm all peed-out...it's pathetic!

My husband kept telling me, for months on end, over and over, to stop depending on the scale and to go by how I actually felt, how fit I was, etc. To measure my success by much more than a number. And then, about a month ago, he'd had enough and he stole my scale. He took it to work(at a factory) and recorded a video of himself destroying it.

Before some of you jump down his throat about it--I'm not upset with HIM at all. I know it needed to be done..to really truly cut those scale-apron-strings...or something like that. But, now, my struggle is that I don't know how much I truly weigh. I don't know if I'm gaining or losing...and by measuring, I don't get that immediate answer...

makes no sense right.
I'm just venting...and can't be the only one who doesn't actually SEE the value of measuring...can I?!?

SO... maybe he can get you a new scale and bring it to you, from work, every 2-3 weeks...

Any more than that and it isn't really much more reliable, or responsive, than measurements - It can swing up or down for so many reasons - water retention casued by a ton of potential reasons is often the largest culprit) it would be great if we had great devices that could measure your "body fat weight" ONLY, but they don't exist - even the fairly accurate body fat % measurements tools we have - like "BodPods" are predictive models - as opposed to "measurements".

If you can find one, there's a great idea - Go get a bod Pod measurement done... and go back in 8 or 10 weeks... I know, still not a responsive feedback tool.

(Not to promote an obsession, but does a friend own a scale you can borrow every so often when you visit. ;) )
