Depression, Screwed up today

I ate way too much today and blew myself way over my calorie budget, I don't know how much, probably just over my maintenance calories, cause I kept count for most of the day. It's only one day, I know, and I'm not entirely discouraged, but it was mainly due to hitting a big period of depression into almost mental breakdowns (I just about sat down to cry at work today, but didn't because I had to get something done). Water didn't help, protein just made the problem worse, and even a chocolate craving, which I can usually whip back into shape with a small bit of it, didn't calm down all day after I came back from work. So, does anyone else have depression that has found something to help out. I would just sleep and try to ignore it, but that was ruined by my sleep schedule being destroyed by the same mess of emotions. I've been doing well, haven't plateaued like I did the first time I tried losing weight, but depression usually comes in to kick my butt when I'm feeling great. Need a little advice and encouragement from others with similar problems! Thanks

So, the first thing is that there's a group on here for people with depression. They could give you targeted advice, and the members are really nice.
I guess the question is why you use food to comfort yourself when you're feeling depressed, and if you could switch it with some other comforting activity (going for a walk, taking a hot bath, meditation, etc.).0 -
I usually don't. Most times I get through the depression just fine without eating for comfort. Today though, the cravings for food just would not quit, and I never felt full. I don't know if it was just the added amount of work lifting and carrying stuff I did today (they put me in the back room as opposed to the sales floor today, so lots of ladders and pushing carts around), or if it was related to the depression. But I'll check out that group, too!0
