How do you stay focused?

I worked 12 hour days all last week (7am-7pm). And this week it looks like the same but from 7pm-7am. Body is totally out of whack. Work is crazy. And most importantly I only see my wife and kids a few hours out of the day.
How do you stay focused and keep on track? And what do you do to keep the stress levels down?

You listed two very good motivators. Your wife and your kids. Keep them in mind. I understand having a hectic schedule and the exhaustion that comes with it. But carry a picture around with you of them, put it on your keychain, on the visor of your car. Everytime you want to stop for a "quick bite" just this once at a fast food place because you just need something, take a look at it and remind yourself that you are doing this so that you can be around for a long time to enjoy them. That is what I have had to do...and it works. Also, get your family involved in your healthy lifestyle with incentives for the family each week or so for everyone being successful in eating healthy and getting a little exercise in.
You'll do great. You already are on a good start by all the changes you have started. Keep it up.0 -
Your question is my answer. The more stressed I am the harder I work out. For me the gym is a brilliant outlet for my stress.
My focus is seeing the results of all that hard work from my life-style transformation.
My key card for work has a head shot photo of me in June last year (45lb heavier). Whenever I feel myself waiver or desire something naughty I look at the photo and just say to myself "Do you want to go back to THAT!"
So all of the above keep me well focused0 -
You don't have to see exercise as taking time away from your family. It's getting to be summer, it's a great chance for you all to get active together. I know it's hard but you're worth the effort!0

I love this quote, and although don't use a picture, am constantly saying something similar to myself....
Just want to tell you from the wife and kid point of view --I'm sure they want you to be healthy and to succeed at this too, and are so proud of you. I look at my husband too--with no time to himself and not much for us either--but wish he would take the step like you have to get back into shape and lose the weight he has gained.
That's a long work day --you must have a break in the middle of the day. I think the best stress-reliever would be to take that break and take a walk to clear your mind from work. Hopefully where you work you have a little green grass and sunshine.
good luck!0 -
Im kinda the same only I work 9am-9pm then 8pm-9am I struggle most on nightshift as I cant sleep through the day so I have all my regular meals then usually another meal around 3 am ( Im trying to make do with a snack tho) Then finding the time to exercise is a struggle, I try to get a bike ride in on my days off ( you could do that as a family) even if I get a 20 min zumba dvd done when I can I reckon its better than not doing anything at all. I keep deciding to walk the 3 miles home after a nightshift but after 13 hours on my feet I never get further than the bus stop lol. As for the stress...get your lovely wife to give you a massage then return the favour
Look how far you have come already0 -
