I just completed week 4of MFP and didn't lose any weight this week. I have lost 11 lbs so far though. I stayed within my calories, and exercised 5 x this week. I know I am not going to lose 2 lbs a week, but even 1 woulda been nice. I know I may have lost in inches andnot to live by the scale...i get all of that.
But when you have 50-60 lbs to lose, I just thought I would have seen constant losses for a couple of months before no weight
loss weeks. IS this normal early on in the process?

Weight loss is not consistent or linear. You will not lose weight every week. Some weeks you may lose 2 pounds, some weeks 1 pound, and others nothing. It is normal. It will happen early in the process, in the middle of your weight loss and at the end. just keep at it!

I usuall only lose 3 weeks out of 4, depending on where I am in my cycle, as I get water retention.

Just look at it over the month - 11lbs in 4 weeks is a lot of weight!

Dont worry about not losing every week.. you most likely won't. Weight loss is not linear... it is influenced by a lot of things. Depending on how much water you had drank, sodium you have consumed, water retention, cycle, etc.. your weight will change.
  • Thanks everyone...i am realistic in that I know I'm not going to lose EVERY week...i just was a bit bummed that so early on in the game, I have already experienced no decrease on the scale. (in my past experiences with losing weight, I tend to lose for a couple of months then get the stall).
And I realize the hormonal affect with retaining water, etc. I am also nursing my 8 month old so that always plays a role (i NEVER lose weight when nursing..it's like my body hangs on to weight while nursing).

I am doing measurements this coming saturday with my trainer, so with the 11 lbs gone in the month, I am sure i will see a difference with those numbers. Thanks again for the awesome support. I love this site!

Just a reality check, keep in mind with 40 lbs to lose, 1 lb per week is good. And you have beat that. Yes, some was water but the trend is very good. Try not to look at it weekly, look at it monthly or every few months. Some weeks you might even gain, but if the long term trend is good, you are doing things right.

Yea, I wouldn't worry about it. You've already got some momentum. Hang in there as this wont be the first time you'll have a week where you're stuck in a rut.
  • Thanks again everyone....Its so great to have this support.
I didn't for one second think of giving up or binging or anything like that, which I would have years ago!
I am going to plug along and keep doing what I am doing!

some weeks ill lose 5-6 pounds, some weeks ill lose nothing... it all even outs in the end. i average a total loss of 8 pounds a month, however, not in even spans... dont sweat it!
  • thanks! I was actually thinking that maybe in the upcoming weeks I will have a real sweet loss like 5 lbs to make up for the weeks that i don't lose...that would be kinda exciting!
Okay..will start looking at it more on a monthly loss than weekly.
