Office Carry-Ins

I have been dedicated to eating right and watching what I eat for quite some time. Unfortunately, it is to the point where I don't want to consume food others have made for fear that it's not "healthy". How can I politely turn down food when it is offered in a setting such as an office carry-in?

Just say no. It isn't offensive. No one is obligated to eat whatever food comes in the office. There is so much leftover meeting food, candy bowls, catered events, etc. at my office that I would probably weigh 400 pounds if I said "yes" to everything. Politely decline and move on. "No thank you, I brought my own lunch." Done.

Just politely turn things down. I have turned down pretty much every offer the last 7 months.
  • As others have already suggested, simply decline politely. I've chosen not to participate in "potluck" dinners for years, long before I was concerned about fat content and the like. When I did go along with it in the past, it always seemed as if I contributed far more than I ever consumed, making it fiscally irresponsible on my personal part, plus not knowing others' kitchen states, food safety was always a concern! I can only imagine the nastiness and filth of others' carelessness and poor hygiene polluting my lunch. Eww! A simple "I'd love to, but no, thanks" is perfectly acceptable.
