Hi, I love Chicken....I can think of a thousand ways to make it. But I'm constantly over in my protein. Is that bad?

Most people do not get the necessary amount of protein per day anyways, so you are probably fine. You should be getting 1 gram of protein per lb of body weight per day.

MFP defaults protein to 20%; you can set it higher by going to My Home, Goals, Change Goals, Custom. Most people will say 40/30/30 (Carbs/Protein/Fat) is a good balance, and you'd altere it depending on your goal (marathon runner, body builder, etc). I have mine at 50/30/20.

MFP sets you up with a default of 15% calories from protein, which is quite low for those that workout. As long as you are under 30% protein going over is fine. You can change your settings by going to goals, change goals, select custom, make the changes to you %, then save changes. Try increasing protein by 5% to 20% and lower either carbs or fat, if you still consistently go over then up it by another 5%.

I'm the same way--I grew up with meat for lunch and dinner every day, so it's just habit for me to eat lots of protein (and I love dairy like yogurt and cheese, which also has protein). I just took a basic nutrition class and they said that there isn't really an issue with eating lots of protein, just that a) stuff with protein can sometimes be high in saturated fat, which is to be avoided for the most part, and b) if you have pre-existing kidney problems, you need to be mindful of what you're eating protein-wise because protein can be hard on the kidneys. I'm not an expert, but I figure as long as you're careful about the fat in whatever protein source you're eating and you don't have pre-existing kidney disease, you can eat a lot of protein and be okay. (Of course, if you have a family doctor he/she might be able to put you in touch with a dietician who could maybe clarify the isue...)

I should be eatting 240 grams of protien a day? LMAO never going to happen. I usually get 90-130. I've read that too much protien can be harmful to your kidneys.

I was always over on protien as well with the percentages that the site sets up automatically. After reading some info on different type of metabolisms I changed my goals to 40% carbs, 30% fat, 30% protien. Now I am much closer to my protien goals on a daily basis.

That's exactly what I'm saying. Protein a necessity, just as carbohydrates (slow burning) and essential fats, so you have to make sure that you have the right amount of intake. Also you should be eating 4 - 6 meals per day (I do 5), which will help you get that much needed protein. It's actually easier than you think to get it, but of course it takes discipline. Good luck!
