Diet Soda

What is everyone's thoughts on diet soda? I drank tons of "regular" Mt Dew in high school (and ate horrible). Switched to diet and eating lots of lean protein and lost 30 lbs.
Skip a head 10 years and two kids later. Still 15 lbs down from my high weight in high school but wondering, is diet soda the reason I can't lose that last 5-10 lbs?
What are everyone's thoughts?

I think everything is ok in moderation. Some people are going to reply here and say that diet soda is horrible for you and if you drink it you're going to die. And maybe that's true if you drink 5 a day. But personally, I have about 2 diet sodas per week, and drink water or sparkling water every other time I intake a fluid. And I'm at a good weight and a very healthy person, according to my doctor. So it's a great topic to debate, and everyone has their own opinions. Is it better than 250 calories of regular soda? Of course. Is it good for you? Probably water would be better. But a diet coke every so often is probably not going to kill you, but that's just my personal opinion.0

As a regular diet soda drinker (about 4-5 cans a week), I have tried to educate myself on what the research actually says about the safety of Aspartame. As far as I know it all points to it being safe. As for diet soda being the reason that you can't lose the last 5-10 pounds, I have never heard of diet sodas interefering with weight loss before, so I think looking at other possibilities first would be a better idea.
That is not to say I think you can drink diet sodas as if they were water. I wouldn't give them to my children and I wouldn't feel entirely comfortable drinking more than what I already do.
Other than the safety of artificial sweeteners, I think there are good reasons to limit how much soda you drink:
Some people claim diet soda gives you even more of a sugar craving. I don't know how common that is; but I've experienced it myself.
There have been some studies that have found that the phosphoric acid in cola sodas decreases bone density.
Some sodas are high in sodium.
In my personal experience too much soda can give you heartburn and other diggestive issues.
I love my diet sodas, I'll kep drinking them (in moderation), and I will stay mindful of new research done about them.0 -
I think Diet Mountain Dew is an abomination. It makes me cry on the inside everytime I take a drink, wishing it were the liquid sunshine of regular Dew.0

You literally made me lol! I use to feel the EXACT same way! But 10 yrs later I believe it was God's gift to me!
Thanks for everyone's replies! I guess I should have added I drink 2 a day (Monday - Friday) but we won't go into how many I drink on the weekend....I feel better about my addiction to it.0 -
I would say your diet soda is DEFINATELY to blame!! It has now been scientifically proven that diet soda still fools your body into thinking and reacting as though you are taking in regular soda. That would explain your difficulty! I have been a pop a holic for almost my entire adult life. Each can of regular soda has approximately 11 tsp of sugar in EACH CAN!!.
I have just started to try and change my eating and lose weight. I quit the cola cold turkey and even though there is part of a case here, I have not cheated. Terrible stuff.....liquid sugar.0
