Hi Everyone!
I'm an out of shape athlete trying ot get back into shape. I would love to to trim down and be healthy. I'm not looking to be a supermodel or The Incredible Hulk, but i do want my to get my athletic bod back. Any suggestion for someone like me to jump start this transition?

Rarely have I been an athlete in my life, however I have been in shape most of my life....my advise comes from losing weight after each of my 3 kids (I gained between 70-75 lbs with each pregnancy and then lost it and got MOST of my shape back LOL). My advise is to go slowly and consistently build up. You know the ropes, you're an athlete! Just stay determined and don't hurt yourself. You will be back before you know it.

You can start the C25K challenge here: http://www.coolrunning.com/engine/2/2_3/181.shtml
You can also start on push ups, squats, crunches here: http://hundredpushups.com/
That will give you an idea of how out of shape you are and give you a program to follow to get back into shape. As you get stronger and fitter you'll find other challenges and workout programs that interest you.
Good luck0 -
many thanks for your words of encouragement, i must say this has been tough. I unfortunately realized that slow and steady wins the race AFTER i hurt myself the first week i went back to the gym. LOL! I will definately take your advice to heart. Ive got a work out partner and she has done the P90x videos TWICE. But we each go at our own speed so theirs no pressure. I love this site and thanks for your input! I'll keep you posted!0

One hundred pushups? I think i maybe can do 10 at this point. LOL, but you are right, i should start with the basics and work my way up. I'm excitedt to look up the websites you referred and try them at the gym tomorrow. Thanks for your words of encouragement!

Just start! I was/am always athletic. I decided to do what i always enjoyed doing. I decided to stop making excuses, but most of all, I decided to stop making excuses for enjoying myself while doing them. No more guilt. No more putting myself last. A lot of people do the c23k program. Others do p90x. Whatever floats your boat!0

So today i hit the gym for an hour and a half, not bad. A little sore, but not bad, and i feel strong. I haven't tried the push up test yet, (mainly out of fear and humility), but i will do it. I promise. Today i worked the legs, which i feel is my trouble zone, I have the shape of a pear! Any ideas out there to help tone/slim the lower half?
Thanks for listening and Enjoy the day!
(remember to try and get a least 30 minutes of some kind of physical activity)0
