New To Running. HELP!?

I have decided to take up running. thing is, I don't run....at all. I would be lucky to run 2 minutes without falling over and feeling like I am going to die! So I could really use some help and advice on how to ease my way into it.

My manager and I sort of want to take on a 5k in September. I figure if I start working on it now I would be able to do it.

Please please help me out. This is the first thing that really has me motivated to actually get off my butt and workout!

Yes, Google C25K (code for couch to 5k). It'll give you a plan to follow to increase endurance and distance. Good luck!

I have never ever been a runner but I am now on week 6 of a couch to 5k program. The one I am doing is called Rundouble. http://www.rundouble.com/ I highly recommend it. I am actually enjoying it. I am going to complete this, I know I am. If I can do it you can do it.

So many great things heard about C25K! Give it a go. You'll be amazed at what you can do! We were initially made to run. If your limbs are in good working condition, you can run. Walking when you are uncomfortable is not a horrible thing. You keep getting out there and doing it, you will get stronger, and you will run continuously for what ever distance you want. Speed is NOT the definer. Your experience is. :)
  • Agreed with the C25K suggestions, also if you really think your fitness level is that low you might want to start with this:

I second Rundouble. It's only available on Android, though. Runkeeper is another good one and it's available for both operating systems. It's awesome that you're going to start running! Don't get discouraged, you CAN do this! I could barely run for two or three minutes at first and now I'm training for a half marathon. Best of luck!
