Working out with a partner or not?

I have trouble getting to the gym but maybe because I go alone. Does anyone struggle with that or is something that has to be done alone.?
How do you keep yourself going to the gym? Do you have a partner that goes with you?

The way I see it, if you go with a partner, you have two sets of excuses to deal with.

I normally go alone, prefer to go alone actually. Take off your shirt and look in the mirror, hope that would motivates you to go to the gym

I spent years lifting in my basement by myself. Then I got a partner and we both made good progress. His shift changed (he's a cop), and I quit lifting. Until today. All of the posts here have lit the fire under me again!

Now I'm back to lifting alone again. A partner is good for some things but motivation only comes from within.
  • I sometimes go with my friend. I prefer going on my own at the moment though purely because she is SO much slimmer and fitter than me and I just feel like a sweaty mess next to her. I love just putting my headphones in and listening to music and forgetting the rest of the people in the gym, I do better that way.

I normally workout on my own, but if a friend wants to join or wants me to join them, then I would. I workout because I want to see results that bad. That's motivating enough. What's also motivating is when I see my friend who is twice my size, edging me to run more. Motivation at its finest for me.
