Doing the 5:2 Intermittent Fasting

Hello, I created an account quite a while ago but really only started to use MFP since Jan. I'm doing the 5:2 intermittent fasting diet, not only to get to a healthy BMI but also gain some of the other benefits: lower cholesterol, lower IGF-1 etc.. I have 70 pounds to lose.
Please feel free to add me and point me in the direction of any other 5:2ers!

Hi, i am thinking about trying IF. Would be great to know more about how you started out? what you consume on fast days? and how long it took you to see results? thanks a lot!0

I'm on the 5:2 too in my 2nd week and it's goin really well. Good luck with it - I've already found it easier than daily restrictions.0

Hi, I started the 5:2 eating plan this week, my next fast day is tomorrow. Have you been watching what you eat on your normal days? How did you go in with your first weigh in?0

Just finished my 3rd week yesterday!
There's a few other discussion threads on this, if you use "search", and also a couple of Groups for 5:2ers.
On normal days, I aim to stay around my maintainance cals fo 1800, but if I have the odd splurge day that's fine.
The scale has dropped about a pound each week so far.0 -
Hi, so the first month has been absolutely fine with me, I track calories during the working week and ease off at the weekend but keep to between 500-600 cals on fast days. I have lost weight consistently and so far have lost 19 pounds. I started doing fast days on Tuesdays and Thursdays but have changed this to Monday and Thursdays - bigger gap which works better for me.
I think because you set your mind to accepting that on fast days you're not going to eat much you don't have that sneaky snack or slightly larger portions which I have found myself doing on other daily diets. Good luck, I'm very interested in recipe ideas or any results in cholesterol as mine is through the roof!0 -
I have lost 23lbs on Weight Watchers online, but am struggling to lose the remaining 21lbs. I read the book by Michael Mosley at the weekend, so decided to give the 5:2 diet a try. My Cholesterol was very high (9.7) and despite losing weight has only reduced marginally, so my doctor has put me on Statins, which I don't want to take. Incidentally, this is my first time on the Message Board, but already it has given me some encouragement.0
