Protein Shakes

I just bought some new protein powder and I will probably be drinking it sometimes for breakfast and usually after the gym! Just looking for some creative ideas for things to add to it. I usually drink it with almond milk! What do you guys put add to your protein shakes?

For a breakfast smoothie I'll sometime blitz up:

    1 frozen banana
    50 g whey protein
    1 tbsp peanut butter
    1 tsp cocoa powder
    200 ml milk

    Topped up with ice/water.
  • I usually do something like:

    1 Scoop Protein powder
    1 Cup Skim Milk
    1 Banana
    2 Cups Spinach/or other green
    Ice

I just blend that all together. If you can taste the spinach I would add some other fruit or stevia, it depends on how potent your green is. I usually can't taste it. Or I can tell it is there but it isn't bad. :)

You beat me to it with the oatmeal but I recommend adding some flax seeds as well

For vanilla whey protein I use the following add ins at different times:

    Pumpkin
    Coconut flavoring
Sugar Free Cheesecake pudding mix with 1/4c frozen strawberries OR blueberries
    Frozen banana
    Sugar Free Butterscotch pudding mix
coconut flavoring with 1/4 frozen pineapple (well hello there pina colada!!)
    apple pie spice
    banana with cinnamon
    frozen peaches
    Orange Sunrise Crystal Light
    Wild strawberry Crystal Light

    For Chocolate whey protein:

    1/4 c frozen strawberries
    frozen banana
    1 tsp peanut butter
    coconut flavoring

If I'm extra hungry and low on calories, I will throw in 2 T of dry oatmeal. I just blend it first by itself so it's more of a powder and not chunky.

I'm using the cheap-o Body Fotress Choco/Peanut Butter from Wal-Mart. I mix it up in the morning and drink it after I'm done at the gym. It usually sits in my car for about 30-45 mins... but, it's cold out now so it doesn't hurt it.

    Here's mine:

    1 or 2 Scoops protein
    1 banana
    1 cup light almond milk
1 or 2 tbs chia seeds
    3 ice cubs

    BRRzzZRRRRzzzzzZRRRRRRRRRzzzZZZzZZZZZZZz - DONE! nomnomnom

I really want to start experimenting with vanilla protein and coffee beans... sounds like it'd be OMGHEAVEN
  • I do chocolate whey protein powder with half of a banana and a tablespoon of almond butter or soy nut butter (I have a peanut allergy) with skim milk or almond milk. If I feel like making it higher in calories I add chocolate soy milk. It's yummy!

    For my morning smoothie
    Whey protein
    Banana
    Almond milk
    Frozen rasberries
    I love it
  • My favorite smoothie:

    1 banana
    1/2 cup pumpkin puree (canned)
giant handfull of spinach (you can't taste it, and it makes the smoothie pretty!!)
    1/2 cup nonfat greek yogurt
1/2 cup light vanilla soy milk
    1/2 tbsp honey
    1 tbsp peanut butter
1/2 tsp cinnamon, 1/2 tsp ginger, 1/2 tsp pumpkin pie spice
    ice

    And just blend!
  • Also since you have protein powder you can probably take out the greek yogurt (because I put that in for protein).

Are all protein powders equal? I was thinking of having some on hand for those days when I am behind on calories... and want a treat..

I'll definitely back up throwing protein powder in with oatmeal. Oatmeal can also be used in your protein shake! I use vanilla when I combine my protein with vegetables, chocolate for almond milk and oatmeal. Mmm.

I add hulled hemp seed or chia seeds. Sometimes a tbsp of PB2.

I freeze chunks of banana to add to chocolate and vanilla shakes and keep a bag of frozen berries to add to vanilla and strawberry.

I got some flavorless whey I can mix into anything. I like to make smoothies. Last night I had one with a scoop of whey protein, 1 banana, 1c whole frozen strawberries, parsley, cucumber, and green pepper. It just tasted like strawberry banana though!

Or 1 scoop whey, 1 banana, 1/2 tbsp nut butter, and 1c almond milk is good, too.
  • My favorite smoothie:

    1/2 cup pumpkin puree (canned)

    1/2 cup nonfat greek yogurt

    1/2 tbsp honey
    1 tbsp peanut butter
1/2 tsp cinnamon, 1/2 tsp ginger, 1/2 tsp pumpkin pie spice
    ice

    And just blend!

Sounds delicious and weird. I'm gonna try it....
  • I love to mix it with full fat coconut milk and frozen berries. Sometimes I add some bee pollen for an extra nutritional boost. Look up the benefits of coconut fats. Consumption has actually been connected with weight loss rather than gain.
