Plateau?

I started a month ago and have lost 6 lbs. I'm too scared to step on the scale and weigh myself, but what if my weight is still the same even though I haven't changed anything else?

Is this what people mean by plateauing? I thought it would come in more than 1 month...? I thought that it only applied for exercising?

Plateau is when you go a few months without weight change. You lost 6 lbs in a month, it's good.
  • I weight myself everyday. That way, if I have a fluctuation, it looks better in a day or so. I also just plateaued. But the day after my "official weight in" i dropped 1.5 lbs. I'm basically ignoring the number and I just keep on going....

Fear is not the same as a plateau.

Weight loss is not linear--6 lbs in a month if you just started is mainly water. It is very possible that you will not see another drop for a month. Just keep at it. In 6 months if you are not losing at least .5 lbs per week then you need to adjust something.

I like your answer. It's much more concrete. I hope I'll still be around on MFP in 6 months!

    Thanks!

    Hi Kloco,
Six pounds in a month is pretty good! You don't want to lose to much to fast because you might gain it back. Just relax and step on the scale. It will happen if you keep at it!
    Good luck to you!

Stop hoping and promise yourself you'll stick around for 6 months.

You are doing great...and weight fluctuates..just keep on going.

just remember when dealing with a plateau. there's nothing on top but a bucket and a mop and an illustrated book about birds. You'll see alot up there but don't be scared, who needs actions when you got words :drinker:
