Is Fitbit worth it?

So, from what I'm gathering from this post, it's not redundant to use both the fitbit and HRM. I already have a HRM but would like a fitbit if it really does help!
Adore my FitBit...I wear it 24/7, and wear my HRM only during workouts. After the workout I'll enter my data from the HRM into MFP and then it automatically synchronizes with FitBit to account for the overlap between the two devices, and adjusts my calories accordingly.
LOVE LOVE LOVE! Can't say enough positive things about the motivation the FitBit provides, plus the easy synchronization. I have the Ultra that's now been discontinued, desperately want the One, but can't justify it when the only difference is bluetooth synchronization, and my Ultra works fine. Won't be getting the wristband because I like having it clipped to my bra, no one knows I'm wearing it, and the stairs matter to me.0 -

Just noticed every day fitbit has a calorie adjustment for me in MFP....just this morning MFP is saying I have earned an extra 289 calories from exercise (its only 830am- I literally woke up, got dressed, got kids up made breakfast, got them to daycare and me to work-I did take the stairs up!)
so by the end of the day fitbit usually says I have burned 2700 calories, and MFP says 2300 or so, so there is usually a giant 400-900 calories adjustment from fitbit. Is something wrong with this? Do i have a setting wrong? I know mfp just guestimates my activity and fitbit is ON ME and knows what I am doing, but just seems like 289 extra calories this morning for just doing my thing isnt quite right!

If your Fitbit is always giving you extra calories, you may have your MFP activity setting too low.
Mine was always giving me more calories so I needed to switch my activity level from sedentary to active.0 -

Does it work if you use the elliptical or similar machines? I had a pedometer and hated it, if was a cheap one and never counted correctly.0

Oooh, reading through this really makes me want a Fitbit...I think I'd get a lot out of it and pretty much know it wouldl motivate me to be more active in between work-outs.
I have a work-out reward jar going...instead of buying clothes with the money, I think I'll buy myself a neat gadget to keep this going long-term!0 -
Mine is a backup to my Polar FT7, which sometimes gives me flaky readings (111 bpm for 30 minutes into my workout, then up to 137 in 60 seconds? Do I have tachycardia?) I love its simplicity and user-friendliness. I'm heading to London for a busioness trip tomorrow and the FT7 is staying home but the FitBit will be on my waistband. If the weather holds out and I can play tourist before my meetings start on Monday, I bet I can ht 15,000 steps!0

I love mine - I had the Ultra but put it through the wash (try very hard not to do that, it doesn't like it AT ALL). I've just replaced it with the newer One model and it's niiiiice. I was going to wait for the Flex to come out, but then read some reviews and it doesn't count stairs and also doesn't have a display - there are wee lights that light up when you've met a goal but that's about it. I'll upgrade to a Flex in a couple of generations, once it counts stairs and also has a display feature. Until then, I'm delighted with my One!

I've had one for about 7 months and I definitely think it's worth it....it's really helped me, especially since I've switched to maintenance. I enable the negative calorie adjustments, which prevents me from overeating and gives me a more accurate calorie count. I definitely believe this has really helped me in not gaining back any weight.0

Love my Fitbit One. It keeps me aware of how much I'm moving (or not moving). I love the way it syncs with MFP. Get it, you'll love it!0

I'm also thinking of getting a Fitbit. This might be a stupid question but I know that it tracks the number and calories of steps and stairs that you take, but if i go running will it track those calories too? i.e. Will it be able to tell the difference between running 1000 steps or walking 1000 steps?
Yes. It can tell how fast you are going as well as how many steps, and when you are going faster it ups your calorie burn. It will count hills as stairs though, which is a little disconcerting at first.0 -
Ok I had never heard of a fitbit until tonight reading all these posts. So i think it sounds like it might be good for me, but have a few questions if anyone knows..... I workout on my treadmill at a variable incline, will the fitbit be able to sense the change? Also we ride horses, anyone know how it would measure that? any suggestions on whether to buy or not and how it works would be greatly appreciated.0

I'm guessing it won't be able to register the incline on a treadmill seeing as you're not actually climbing (if you walk up a hill it'll count one flight of stairs for every ten feet of elevation, but that's because you're actually ascending). I suspect that in terms of horseriding it would count steps but possibly not very accurately. There are some exercises that it can't take into account, so perhaps team it up with a heart rate monitor for those ones (swimming and cycling are another couple of examples). I find it to be accurate for most things though!0 -

Ok, so I got my Fitbit as a late Christmas present from my mother-in-law (I asked for it!), and I used it for a total of 3 days... I was SO excited to finally have one. And on the third day, I wore it on my bra, exactly as instructed, and I checked it several times that morning.... and that afternoon it was gone. Just... gone.
I am so disappointed. $100 is not pocket change. Anyone have any experience with losing theirs? Does anyone have any experience with Fitbit's customer service? I've read on a few other sites that this doesn't seem to be a particularly isolated problem, and that some people have received replacement units from Fitbit.
Fitbit will be able to see that after 2.5 days, my unit stopped logging in on my account.

Yes, when you set it up it will be able to tell the difference between the two strides.0 -
I've been using my fitbit ultra for 13 months and i love it, especially the way it interacts with MFP. It definitely motivates me to do more and whereas MFP enables me to keep track of what i am eating, Fitbit keeps track of what I am burning. Love it !!0

It's worth it. We all have one each here...so that is 3 Fitbit One devices here. I do a minimum of 20,000 steps a day. I will walk 17km just to get a light globe. I just dont stop walking in order to get to the limit. Today I managed to o 20000 in 4 hours.
Is it worth it? Yes.
I walk EVERYWHERE now.... I have to go get a $50 note changed for my son.... I'm about to walk 5km to get that done...just so I can get to 25,000 steps.

I love it and use it daily to assist with my calories. You can also see your sleeping patterns and when you wake up at night. You can also segregate your workout steps so it does not double count with MFP.0 -

Get a heart rate monitor. It's a more accurate way of gauging calories burned. Get em both! lol

Check out the fitbit thread on here or search the forums for fitbit. It's basically a snazzy pedometer that also tracks your sleep quality and floors climbed. Based on your weight, it will also provide a pretty accurate calorie burn. It is NOT a heart rate monitor.
I wear mine 24/7. I use the stopclock feature to track my sleep (push it when I'm ready for bed and when I get up). I also use that feature when I want to call out a particular part of the day - like if I'm working out. I'll use the stopclock to call out that 30 minutes so I can easily find it. And the fitbit is smart enough to know which is sleep and which is another reason I'm tracking.
I still enter my workouts into MFP. Walking based workouts I set the calorie burn to 1. This lets me track the activity but doesn't double-dip - Fitbit will already give me credit for the steps. If I'm doing a non-walking based workout, like bicycling or swimming, I enter the activity in MFP and let it count the calories.
I *LOVE* this fitbit and the reports I get, as well as the "Chatter." I find it very motivational to try to beat my previous day. It's changed how I think and act.
My hubby will ask me, "How'd you sleep last night?" And I will say, "I don't know, let me check...." then log on to see. HA! I also found setting the sleep tracking to sensitive and wearing it on my bedtime sports bra gives me more accurate results than keeping it on normal and using the annoying wrist band.
I find myself parking further away from stores... walking my errands.... taking the long route for dog walks.... all to see that number climb. I want to beat the numbers from the previous days and weeks. I don't use the social aspects, but you could compete with friends and participate in the leaderboards, too.

Fitbit or HRM, they're great tools but not necessary. I'm the type of person that would rather go out casually for a run, and listen to my bodies feedback than a monitor. I'm already inputting a lot of numbers on a daily basis, and I'd hate to rely on a little monitor for even more numbers. Honestly purchasing a HRM was the worst decision I made which made me end up returning it. It's true when the say ignorance is bliss. I was really burning less calories than MFP was telling me, but once I found that out my whole exercise regime got sabotaged and I got less pumped about my workouts. Now I don't have one anymore, and I just RUN FREELY!0
