Hormones can makeyou retain water no matter how much you drink. This is why women typically gain weight during TOM.
Also, certain foods may make you retain water. Gluten and dairy are common for this, but really any food may do it. Try paying close attention to what you eat the day before you feel bloated to see if there is a pattern.0 -

i usually eat the same foods every day. i eat chicken most nights sometimes i alternate between fish. maybe its just my hormones :-/0 -
I have no help, but am SO FRUSTRATED by water retention.0

you can modify your diary to show the sodium content you're taking in. With the prepared meals, there tends to be more sodium used as a preservative....it could be that helping contribute.0

My guess is that sodium is a big factor. You aren't tracking it, but fast food and prepackaged or preseasoned foods are typically very high in sodium. If the past few days are typical, you are eating a lot of these foods. Too much sodium causes bloating.
I'd suggest tracking sodium and trying to eat more home prepared foods cooked with less salt.0 -

I was getting ready to post, but the above poster typed everything I was going to type. From experience, I can tell that you are probably going over 2500 mg sodium per day. And again, from experience, I know I would be retaining water. The advice this poster gave is the same I would give.0 -
so the lean cuisines are whats holding a lot of the soduim im eating?0

Any frozen meal like that, canned soup, or pre-packaged anything usually has a TON of sodium. Soy sauce and cocktail sauce are also very high. chicken broth too - unless you buy the reduced sodium. If you eat canned beans, rinse them really good to get rid of the extra salt. Fast food too.
I NEVER eat any of those before weigh-in, because they make me retain so much water, I could easily be "up" 5 pounds the next day.
If you are eating them frequently that is definitely the reason you feel so bloated.
I'd try not to eat them at all if you can, or limit them to like one per week - never before weigh in.
As you can see, the Lean Cusine pizza you had the other day was 590 mg of sodium. That is considered a lot - especially for one meal.
The burger king wrap would also have a TON of sodium - not sure why the entry isn't showing it, it was probably entered into the database incorrectly.0 -
SODIUM IS NOT THE PROBLEM!
Without an adequate amount of sodium, you will deplete yourself and become malnourished.
Especially if you're drinking a lot of water, more sodium is needed.
Don't drink a lot of water before you haven't peed from previous water drinking.0 -

i am defiently not at that stepping stone yet! i wish i was but i just speed walk at an incline, no running for me yet! i am not a fan of running but i am working myself up to that. would a steam/sauna room give the same effect0 -

Sorry but you're not a woman, I'm guessing.
I would bet money that she is eating way too much sodium, especially if her diet consists of Lean Cuisines and Burger King.
I over did it on sodium the other day and I was bloated for 3 days afterwards.0 -

Very true. I eat a very low sodium diet. I typically aim at 800mg/day or less....but allow up to 1200mg/day if I've been sweating a lot. Any day where I consume 1500-2000+ mg of sodium can cause severe bloating, sometimes edema and a blood pressure of about 170/105 or higher.
I could take blodd pressure meds or diuretics....but I'd rather just control it with diet.0 -

I'm not saying you eat Burger King every day - but if you are eating more pre-packed foods, versus stuff you make yourself, there is going to be more sodium. For example, if you buy frozen chicken, or the pre-packed chicken shortcuts, they are going to have more sodium, than if you buy fresh chicken and cook it yourself.
Canned vegetables are going to have more sodium than fresh or frozen veggies, etc. Oh and those pre-made mixes like dry ranch mix, taco seasoning mix, etc - they have a TON of sodium in 1/2 tsp. I immediately stopped using them when I realized I could make my own.
So the more you can make fresh, the better.0 -

My point is that you shouldn't worry so much about a couple pounds of water weight. Just keep exercising and eating healthy. Your body keeps a certain amount of water in case you need it to make blood, sweat, digest food, repair muscle, etc. There's really no point in fretting over how much extra it keeps. It goes away pretty easy (an hour for me) and shouldn't be the focus of your diet. If you have 2-3 pounds to lose and are going to do a swimsuit pose routine on stage you might have a grief with water weight but otherwise who cares.
Unless you only need to lose 2-3 pounds then water weight isn't the problem.0 -

I don't believe she ever said anything about being concerned with the water weight - she said she is feeling bloated and uncomfortable. She doesn't want to feel that way.0 -

Ok, I see you are a male so I'm guessing that's why you don't understand.

The Burger King Wraps on Tuesday actually had 1060 mg of sodium each that some misguided person neglected to post on MFP nutritional facts. That is over 2000mg that you had not tracked... Watch out for prepackaged foods like Lean Cuisine and restaurant/fast food they are always higher in sodium than what you need. 2500mg is actually on the higher side of acceptable for sodium. Shooting to stay between 1500 and 2000 is much more advisable. You do not want to drop it below 1000 especially if you workout and drink lots of water. Drinking water will flush out additional sodium that you don't need and will also help you to shed excess water it is a natural diuretic. Feel free to add me... Anyone can. I've dropped 128 in the past seven months and my BP has gone from 145/95 to 122/82 and my resting pulse rate from 92 to 64.0
