Here's a question I was wondering about today.. should I be more focused on how LONG of an exercise I get in or how many calories I'm burning?

good question, i do 2 to 3 hours cardio a day, and each exercise i pick has to be 60 mins each, hmm, you made me think.

Calories. I know I'd much rather burn 100 calories in 10 minutes than spend 30 for the same burn. Obviously, for health benefite you'll want to work out more, but, imho, longer/more doesn't necessarily = better.

caloroes and hrt show how much energy expended. You can go a long time at a snails pace or a short intense session. I watch heart rate and calories burned as an indication. I have found that MFP and the machines in the gym are VERY generous as to what calories I have burned as to what I have REALLY burned.

I vary it. Sometimes I go for multiple hour walks or bike rides. Sometimes I work out with very intense 30-45 min work outs.

My reasoning is we evolved doing both.

Thanks for the replies, was just curious what people thought.

I have a heart rate monitor and I love it!! I usually am for 400+ cals burned and around 1 hour workout.. or more.. depending!
