how do you keep salad cold without refrigerator?

I brought a brand new bag of salad mix to eat for lunch today so that I would have a healthy lunch. The refrigerator at work froze it and now it is pretty much not edible.
Does anyone know if it works to use the little ice packs and an insulated lunch bag and not put it in the fridge? Or will doing it that way make it wilt?

Thanks!

Insulated lunch bag and an ice pack?
  • Will the insulated lunch bag with the ice pack make the lettuce wilt?

If you are just wanting to keep it cold from home until the time you eat lunch, it should be fine with either one of the little packs or even on it's own in an insulated bag. It won't be as cold without the pack, but it's not going to go bad or wilt in a short amount of time. When I used to work in an office, I just took my salad and left it on my desk. Was probably out for just under 4 hours prior to eating and I never had a problem with it.
  • Thanks I will definitely do that. That way I know my food is safe from freezing!
