I need help with my calories, I currently weigh 193.8 im 5 foot 2 inches and 23 years old. I have been doing Insanity for 3 weeks and have only lost 2 lbs, I'm not noticing a difference. What is really bothering me though is Im scared that I have ruined my metabolism in 2011 I did the HCG Diet Yes I know how stupid that is. My question is Is it possible to fix my metabolism or am I just eating too many or too little calories? I have read the post about tdee and bmr but it is very confusing to me. I have my calories set at 1600 right now but on a average day I burn around 500 calories so should my net be 1200 or less?

Insanity is awesome to help lose weight but as with any exercise program it is a small part (20% ish IMO) to your weight loss goals. The kitchen is where it is done.
I would re-evaluate your diet. What is your marco. break down (fat, carb, protein) per day? Then you can check your sources, especially of carbs. If you are working out and truley sticking to the calories you listed below and still are not losing weight, then yes, I would lower the food amounts. Don't do anything drastic, just lower it by maybe 100 or so calories a day and see how that goes.
Best of luck and keep working with Shaun T!0 -
Everyone says that 1200 calories are not enough, but any more and I can gain weight. The HCG was 800 or less an many people can not tolerate that. Also choose what you eat. Fill up on greens. That keeps everything moving out! Insanity would kill me.
Get yourself on a healthy and sustainable diet and exercise.
I am lucky because I can no longer tolerate wheat, t inflames my arthritis. Baked products are empty calories.
Meat is becoming less digestable, so I got rid of that.
Fat gives me heart burn, so now I eat vegan. Beans and greens and walk. Long term, I can stick with this and it will work.
I also got into a food routine that works for me.
I dice and cook a potato with onions, peppers, mushrooms, and any available veg for breakfast.
Sometimes I add water and boullion and make this huge soup.
Sometimes I have it twice in the morning, because it is low calorie.
For lunch, I have a huge salad, greens, onion, pepper, 1/2 cup usually red kidney beans.
Supper, I do a rice tortilla (crisped in toaster oven), bean spread, vegetables on top.
This leaves me room for some snacks.
One snack I do is I run an apple and carrot through the grater and it is like a desert salad. It would be better with raisins, nuts, and vanilla yogurt, but when those are in the house, I blow the diet.
Just figure out what will work for you. Choose different menus that work for you. Aim for only one pound a week and hope for two.
Another thing that worked for me was at every 5 pound marker, I treated myself to a small hot fudge sundae with nuts. I really got excited about them, and it kept me motivated.
Use your own head and work out ahead of time what will work for you. Be reasonable.0 -
At 1600 calories, there's no way you're eating too little. You WILL NOT put on weight eating that much. I checked a BMR calculator - you're basically eating the very bare minimum you should be. Eat at least that, and eat at least part of your exercise calories, and hopefully you'll continue to see progress. If you have done damage to your metabolism, the only way to improve it is to keep active and keep eating enough
And really, 2 pounds in 3 weeks is a great start! Honestly, I'm not sure what you're worried about? Come back and complain when you haven't lost anything for a month or more
On a related note, have you measured yourself? Measure around the smallest/largest parts of your waist, thigh, etc, wait a month and measure again. You may see results there that aren't necessarily the same as the pounds lost. No one but you sees the number on the scale, everyone can see your waistline getting smaller. Good luck!0 -
