Are all forms of HIIT equal? Read on please..

Whether they are done on a treadmill, elliptical, stationary bike, jump rope or by running on the street. As long as you are doing the heart rate up & down patten will you pretty much get the same results? I'm asking because I was doing it by running sprints outside, but it's really doing a number on my already weak ankles & knees & I need to find another way of doing it. But, I want to make sure I'm getting the maximum results.

Which form would you say produces the best results?

Out of your suggestions, sprinting probably. But if you're hurting yourself, I'm not sure what would work best.

i think running sprints off the treadmill is better than on, but i have no proof besides how i feel

    - on the machine, my stride length is limited which means i'm not able to go as fast because my stride is shorter and choppier than it should be
    - off the machine, i can control the acceleration, so those moments when i'm kicking in to a sprint or winding down it's not as awkward than if i have push buttons or worry about grabbing the side rails and jumping up

also if you're having trouble with your ankles and knees are you sure you're using proper technique and wearing correct shoes?

you can still get great results from doing HIIT on an elliptical or arc trainer. don't worry so much about what the "best" option is, focus on what works best for you. even that can vary day to day.

    That's really good advice! Thanks!
