Hey guys.....I'm new to the message boards part but I have been using myfitnesspal for my iphone for a week today........

I've lost almost 10 lbs this week eating my calories that I need to eat and drinking 8 8oz servings of water a day. I eat 2-3 servings of fruits and veggies with low carbs.....I know rapid weight loss is bad but I can't seem to slow it down....Is it water weight from my 30 minutes on the elliptical or what?? I haven't noticed a change in my stomach size but my face has slimmed down a lil bit....Any help?

    Wow, that is a lot for a week but it could mostly be water weight. The main thing is to make sure you stick to you eat your calories like you said and you should be healthy. Good luck and welcome to MFP.

    10 pounds in 1 week is kind of drastic....the recommended is 2....however the weight loss drops off on people faster when they are really heavy...so it depends on how big you are

    Also eating healthy is all good and dandy....just ensure you are eating atleast 1200 calories per day....as anything less eventually your body can go in starvation mode

    some of that 10 pounds is more likely water weight....which you tend to loose that first....and then after a couple weeks the weight levels out and you start loosing at a moe reasonable weight

    Thanks for the welcome....Yea I know its alot....I also have a hard time eating ALL my calories for the day.....MFP says 1590 calories before I workout......After I work out it tells me to add up to 600 more calories...However I am full from the food I eat because I eat filling foods...... Is it bad that I don't replace those calories or is it ok? I'm new to this whole calorie counting thing


    I am eating between 1600+ calories a day....... So I am eating and I'm eating healthy. Fruit, Veggies, nuts, a little calories, and I eat chicken atleast once a day plus Tuna

    It's common to lose quite a lot in the first week. If you don't start to add some of it back, I would be surprised.

    That said, you NEED to eat your calories earned by exercise.

    I try to eat a many as possible but I get full and don't want to and cant eat any more till about time for me to get off work which is at 11 pm...I know ur not suppose to eat after 8

    Those first ten pound are supposed to be water weight. I don't let that discourage me... Some people lose weight faster than others. I'm one of those too... Lucky for us! They say lose wight too fast, you'll put it back on in no time. Doesn't have to be true! Not if you continue healthy eating. This IS for life... a healthy life. :) Keep moving forward.     Your body doesn't care when you eat. That after 8pm thing is not a "rule". You need a certain nubmber of calories to maintain a healthy body and stay on an even keel emotionally.

    If you have to, have a protein shake at work or just before you workout, and another one after you workout. You can have an apple or banana with peanut butter (or any nut butter) = 300 calories.

    You need to read the sticky posts to learn why it is so important to eat.

    I'm not letting it discourage me.....I want to lose my stomach and back fat.....For some reason it all decided to gather there. I'm hoping by the begging of july I can break 180lbs

    Yeah, that first month of eating right is great because you do lose fast at first, mostly water. It will slow down to about a pound a week or two after you get into your pattern. Your doing great.

    by the way, you CAN eat after 8. what you should not eat is carbs. Eat protein only meals in the evening. It was hard for me to eat every three hours at first. You have to get your body used to eating often. they are supposed to be small well balanced meals. this will speed up your metabolism. You can try protein shakes. They are meal replacements. They don't have many carbs which also makes them great for evening time.

    The 8pm thing is mostly a guide for people on normal hours, who go to bed at 10pm. For many reasons it is best to get your calories in early in the day. But not because it's bad to eat at a certain hour. It's because our bodies stop producing insulin around 10pm. Most people who bypass frequent regular meals throughout the day tend to "binge" eat at night because 1.) They crave carbs for instant energy and 2.) They're freakin HUNGRY.

    If you are eating 5-6 small meals throughout the day and eating:

    Carbs
    Protein
    Fats-

    --in every meal, using whole foods, you will not be hungry and not tend to binge late night. The carb-binge is the problem, not eating at 9:27pm.

    Calories in versus calories out. Simple.
