Clothing problems

I didn't lose my boobs when I lost weight. As a result I look like I'm wearing a tent most of the time because if I buy shirts that fit my chest, it's baggy everywhere else. I try to dress conservatively but I end up looking 20 lbs heavier; the alternative is to wear clothes that fit my waist properly but squeeze cleavage out the top and look trashy :noway:
Is it expensive to get clothes tailored?
Any other ideas to avoid looking like a sack of potatoes?

I know it sounds silly but on pinterest you can find so many different ways to take in a T-shirt on the sides to keep the modesty of the top and get the fit around the waist. If you go on there and search for repuropse t-shirt, or t-shirt sewing tutorial etc. There are tons on there! GOOD LUCK.

don't know about where you are but over here (uk) its really cheap to get clothes altered - say £4/5 to get a shirt taken in.

I'm dealing with that myself. Sigh. So far, things that fit in the chest (maybe a bit tightly there, like if it's a knit t-shirt or something and depending on how comfortable you are with that!), with a belt of some sort around the waist to emphasize that you're smaller there. Also wrap-style tops can be flattering, depending on how they're constructed (a tank top or camisole underneath can provide coverage for modesty).

While I haven't done it yet, at some point I'm planning on getting a button-down shirt that fits in the chest and then bringing it in a bit around the waist (I can sew, and it wouldn't be super hard to sew in a bit from the seams to make things smaller).

And yeah, it sucks being a shape that isn't as well catered to with clothing options!

I've never had shirts tailored, but it costs about $20 to take in pants at the waist/hips.

You would be amazed at the quality of the seamstresses you can find at a dry cleaner for 'simple' alterations such as putting in darts or taking a pair of pants in at the waist. (I'm a bit biased as years...and years ago..I was one LOL)
Alterations should not be too expensive, most shops will have a min charge, but I personally wouldnt pay more than 1/4 of the garment value for a simple alteration.
Pinterest is an excellent place to start to learn to 'adjust' your own t-shirts to fit an ample bust and waspish waist (lucky girl!!)

Just invest in a couple of really good bras..go to be fitted..you don`t have to buy from there jut make sure you know what bra is going to fit well.

A lot of problems are with bras are that they are `plunge` bras and for the bigger boobs this makes them bulge out and it is not a good look.

Balconette bras are usually better for us bigger on top ladies. Embrace your curves...lots of ladies lose their boobs or they go a little south after losing weight.

I guess we all find fault with our bodies. From my point of view, yours doesn't sound so bad. I have the opposite problem. As I lose weight I lose my boobs! But not in the butt! You do not want to be bottom heavy. Shirts have to be so big to fit around my butt that the shirts fall off my shoulders! Not good. So, I understand your issue but personally I'd rather have yours than mine.

I have the same issue, as you can see in my profile pic. I'm thinking about saying eff it and going trashy!

I tend to wear stretchy tops for this reason. If you're concerned about the cleavage-ahoy problem with button-ups (I never show cleavage on purpose - I agree that it's trashy) wear them with camisoles.

Almost all of mine for work wear are balconette, and I have to get all my tops altered, but it's well worth it, and not that expensive, just look around and just do one garment to see how you like it (and their work) it makes a big difference. Good luck!

^^This. Additionally, a good tailor or seamstress is your best friend. It's amazing what they can do to a garment to make it fit perfectly for one's shape. Take it from a shorty with curves; it's well worth the money.
