13/14 is a juniors size. Juniors sizes are cut smaller in the hips. I would suggest starting by buying adult women's clothing, lol.0

Wait, are people measuring their hips, like, with your butt? Or, above your butt? Or..... I measured right where low-rise pants would sit... the widest part of me but not my butt.... does that make sense? Is that correct?0

Hi All, I am struggling with losing inches from my hips. My hip width is a 45 (i think), I wear 13/14 and I'm 5'9. I would love to be a size 10. I'm just trying to get an idea of how many more inches and/or pounds I need to lose......
Also my thighs are huge 26 inches
Since some take hip width to be across the hips: 32 inches
thighs: 20 inches
5'7
Pants size: size 3 to 9 depending on who makes them. 7 is the most common since I usually wear silver jeans.
I F-ing hate vanity sizing.0 -

Confusing isn't it lol. A modeling agency told me they usually measure across the butt (the absolute widest part of you). Why they call that the hip measurement, I have no idea.0 -

Sounds as if vanity sizing in the USA is worse than here in the uk if people with hips 35 and 36 can fit a size 0.0

My waist is 23 inches and I weigh 100 pounds, so I don't know if that influences it or not. My hips are 34 inches, but that is because I have a very round booty in the back. The actual hip width across is slim. And when I do the measurement, I make sure the measuring tape is not too tight, and I think a little bit of my finger is under it, maybe I should have someone else measure me. Sizing does seem to be perplexing. I had size 4's and they were too big, I had to give them away. I bought a size 2, but was heavy lifting and then I had to bring them in to be made 1 to 2 sizes smaller. But, sizing does run bigger in the States and Canada than it does in Europe or Australia (I hear). A size 0 here, is a size 4 there.0 -

???
Juniors sizes are specifically cut more narrow in the hips and bust, specifically designed for teenage bodies that haven't fully developed. Women's bodies finish developing when we're 18-22ish, it's a harsh reality but we get more hips and boobs- most of us will never have the same body we had when we were 16. THAT is the difference in clothing cuts for juniors vs. adult women. Needless to say, not all women are built the same and some adult women fit better in junior's cut clothing than women's.0
