any discussion? i would like to learn more, myself. i've never used artificial sweeteners except for once when i thought it was a packet of sugar... but it is still nice to learn about short and long-term risks!

I am not familiar with the author of the article so don't know his credentials, but it doesn't matter for me personally...

I've tried all of the sweeteners out there at one point or another and can't stand any of them.

Some, I just don't like the taste of. I can't stand diet coke, diet tea, etc.

Any of the sugar alcohols give me gas/bloating/discomfort.

Splenda (sucralose) gives me a headache.

Stevia was the most tolerable, but I still couldn't stick with it. And that's really not natural either, it's incredibly refined.

So I'm left with only "real" sugar sources, complete with their calories... Sugar, brown sugar, honey, maple syrup, agave, molasses, etc. I love them all, but try to practice moderation.

I've had no problem using ridiculous amounts of splenda every day and drinking a dozen diet sodas a day

PS - Someone posted this in another thread:

Good info from a respectable source. They call out the sugar alcohol problem that I mentioned, so I'm not crazy (...in that regard)!
