I started MFP a little over a month ago and have had great success - lost 9 lbs! then this morning I had gained 2 back. I am rarely over my goal, and if I am, it's not by much. But to gain 2 in one week? Any advice??

It could be water weight from eating salty foods or if you have exercised a lot otherwise are you on a very low calorie diet? That will cause it.

Could be a multitude of things.

Your body fluctuates daily, depending on sodium levels, how much you've eaten, TOTM, toilet habits, etc.

I weigh daily and it goes up probably every other day, but I only pay attention to my overall loss at the end of the month.

I often don't get the results I want on a daily or even weekly basis, but when I look at the end of the month it's always going in the right direction.

Keep at it, you will be fine.
  • I only weigh weekly but I had an almost 3 lb gain! I exercise 5 days a week so, I am chalking it up to muscle weighing more. I am now able to wear clothes I could not put on a few weeks ago so I am smaller! I WILL NOT BE DISCOURAGED! Don't you be either! In the end it will be worth it all!!
  • Thanks so much for your responses! It really helps to hear I'm not alone :)
I'm following the calorie intake that MFP proposed - how do I know if that's too little??

We will need some stats to answer that; height, weight, calorie amount, etc

What have you set MFP to? Most people set it to 2lb loss a week which is often too high, unless you have a lot to lose.
  • This happens to me also. I had a Mardi Gras Party this weekend. Ate and drank and now have gained (on the scale) 4 lbs!! I am getting back on the exercise and food routine. It will take 4 or so days to get closer to weight prior to eating all this but. I know it will happen again. Water weight gain is crazy. Get back on plan or keep with it.

Nothing tastes as good as feeling thin!!
  • I'm set for 1 lb per week, they have me at 1360 a day (just updated and now it's 1320). Height 5'5", weight 162.
