In my experience I usually did both... 20min ice/20 min heat... or use IcyHot0

I was always told to alternate ice and heat. The ice helps keep down any inflammation and the heat will relax the muscles.0

Hi Sara warm will relax the muscle without causing spasm...I would avoid cold. Hope this helps.0

For what its worth...I once had an ORV accident where I was banged up pretty hard. I thought I was fine, then sat in a hot tub for an hour, only to find I couldn't even walk afterward and had to go to the ER. The people at the hospital told me you're supposed to treat an injury with cold/ice for the first 24 hours...then you can treat with heat later.....
Not sure if a 'muscle pain' would be given the same advice though...0 -
I always find that heat helps muscle aches and pains.0
