Should I or shouldn't I?

HELP***** Doctor, I've got a runny nose, ears filled like they may have fluids behind them (my hearing is decreased) little bit of a cough (more like a tickle) and a headache. Question...should I exercise today?

If you feel like you can, I would.
I find that if I do cardio and get a good sweat going, it helps me get better faster. I rarely get sick now that I work out.

I've always follow if it is above the shoulders, go for it, below, stay home. Works for me. Cardio tends to clear up my head when I have a cold. But for strength training, it would depend on my energy level. I would probably try anyway.

<<< Not a doctor (disclaimer) but I would:

Steam myself first and clear my airways..

Exercise lightly.. nothing too strenuous.. and I'd Keep hydrated.

If I felt really weak, or feverish, I wouldn't exercise but get plenty of rest.

This is a life style change.. not a race. Good health to you!

Since you don't have a productive cough yet (and hopefully it won't get to that point) I would do a little something. Even just moving around a little could help release the tension from the headache. Go for a short, brisk walk or do something to get the heart pumping for a little bit. Nothing crazy, just something. I hope you feel better!

Maybe take a walk? I agree with the others, working out usually helps me feel better.

Take an ibuporfen for the headache and go for it. Be sure to listen to your body and back off if you need to.

    Feel better soon!

If you're up to it...but dude...don't go to the gym. There's enough sick germs out there already!

This ^^ If you feel like crap, rest. If you feel okay but are stuffy, then do what feels right. But don't go to the gym and share your germs.

Hey new friend! If this is new and it's in your head, than you should be able to work out. IMO, I usually like to do cardio to move it out fast. ;o) Anything below the neck, is usually a wait and see; give it rest.

There are many that point out that working out taxes your immune system, so consider that. Personally, unless its my rest day, ill do a light workout, probably something anaerobic if im all plugged up, then then a nice rewarding steam session.
  • Hello, MFP's. So, as luck would have it. It is STILL raining here in Alabama....so last night I did nothing. I'm sorry. Forgive me Father for it has been threes days since my last exercise.
  • YEAH a break in the rain. Got out there and did a loop around the park. 17:00 for 1.29 miles.
