So I am going to be tailgating in 2 weeks for the coca-cola 600 and I need some healthy ideas on what to bring. So far the only thing I can think about is turkey burgers on sandwich thins. Any ideas? Oh and I know that I will be drinking some sweet tea vodka.

Have fun and exercise a lot before you go. Bring a vege tray so you can crunch on something and enjoy

Thanks for the idea. I need food for 6 people with 3 of us on weight loss plans.

So weird, I was just browsing through these articles. I super love cooking light magazine as it offers gourmet recipes and EVERYTHING has nutritional information and is reasonably healthy. Anyways, there was an article about made over super bowl foods.

Also, things like hummus and whole wheat pita, chips and salsa, veggies as mentioned, veggie burgers, are good alternatives to regular fare.

Woah, since three of you are on weight loss plans, this shouldn't be hard at all. Turkey burgers are a great idea! Maybe bring some veggies and chicken to grill?

(Oh, and if you want something even better than turkey burgers, try boca meatless burgers. I am far from a vegetarian, but I heard about these and gave them a try. They tasted like beef; they even had melted cheese inside. No kidding.

I agree about the boca burgers. Soooo good!! One of the brands (gardenburger maybe) has a mushroom burger that is super tasty.

Low carb wraps & fruit. Apples & oranges should pack well. You'll probably have lots of places to walk so exercise might not be an issue at all. Have fun! :drinker:

because people love chips (i do anyway) you can crush up some rice cakes and mix them with some almonds. or just do whole rice cakes with a sour cream dip...it is much healthier than greasy chips and heavier dips

    also veggies, pitas, fruit

you can make little kabobs out of turkey bites and veggies

You could also make a dip for fruit using plain greek yogurt (crazy protein!) mixed with some honey and a splash of vanilla. I don't have exact amounts as I just taste it and add if it's lacking. Someone already mentioned hummus! It's so easy to make your own so that you can control the sodium and oil. Just make sure you rinse the beans several times to remove as much salt as you can. If you are grilling, you can try grilled pork kebabs with wheat tortillas (toast them on the grill) and cucumber tzatziki made with greek yogurt. Thats what we are having for dinner tonight...mmmmm

I will hav to check with the others on humus as I hate the stuff with a passion (I don't like beans either). Think it tastes like dirt. I like the kaboob ideas. Just thought of the idea of the baked tortillas with this great fresh salsa from Herris Tetter. 3 of us are trying to loose weight and 3 don't care. The other two have already lost 120 lbs and 75lb. They are part of my inspiration. The fruit dip sounds yummy. We are going to be at the track around 10am and the race doesn't start until 6pm so it gives us lots of time. Thanks for all the great ideas so far.

i love hummus, only issue with it is the calories. it is really calorically dense and it doesn't fill me up.

One of the first healthy things I convinced my parents to eat was grilled kabobs. Sliced zucchini, squash, onion, bell pepper, mushrooms, etc with a meat of your choice. We used gator meat, but that's just us in Louisiana. I imagine chicken would be just as good.

Lots of grilled veggies can be wrong! : ) Have fun!
  • Hummus: I don't like it either. I do, however like homemade hummus, where you can adjust seasonings and stuff to make it taste less like dirt.

For 3 of you being on a weight loss program, try to limit the amount of things that are not vegetables or fruits. They have very little calories but can fill you up. Especially if you plan on drinking alcohol!
