Hi, I'm nervous...

Hi....

I am truly hoping to gain support and encouragement here with regards to just getting healthy. I'm out of shape, and have a one year old. I woke up in tears the other day thinking if I keep on this track, I'll never see her grow up. I want to be here for her. She needs her mother. But I've gotta change. I tried so many things, but I know eating healthy and exercising is the only way. I ordered some walk at home videos for now to get me started, and although I have a gazillion "diet books" I was at a loss on how to eat and lose and keep it off. I refuse to be frustrated, so I joined my fitness pal and downloaded the app. There's strength in numbers right? So here goes...

Welcome to MFP. Please don't be nervous. You will do great I promise.
  • You can do this! We are here to help! Take it day-by-day or meal-by-meal. Choose fresh fruits and veggies and lean proteins. If you continually make healthy choices then the bad foods won't seem so appealing. Find food and exercises that YOU love. Not everyone is the same. Log every.single.thing. that goes into your mouth. You can do this!

Welcome to MFP! Many people have had amazing success here. Most importantly, don't starve yourself, losing slow and steady will give you better results. Good luck!
  • you have the desire! you can do it!!
I'm going to try this thing I just ran across on the internet...I've heard that fasting had health benefits for a long time, but never thought about it much. If you google "eat stop eat", you can download the free pdf about this and it makes sense. Its not really a diet, but a lifestyle change.
you actually eat everyday, but you do go for one or two 24 hr periods where you give your body a break from food... I'm not explaining it very well. If you're interested, check it out!! and best of luck!
  • I think you will really enjoy MFP. I just started myself but everyone has been very helpful and supportive. You will do great!
  • Baby steps! :) .. and you've already taken the first step of your journey, so congratulations!
  • Thanks so much for the support everyone! It really means a lot to know I'm not alone on this journey and have help. I know I can do it. I'm determined. Looking at my little girl's precious face keeps me serious about it. Thank you so much. You have no idea how much your responses mean to me right now. I was really down.

That's interesting that you said that. My church is getting ready to do a 40 day fast and my husband and I are joining it. It's for spiritual reasons, but of course there will be weight loss too.

  • Hey, thanks for this. I'm going to go read that now.

This should be posted on every single new MFPers wall, on every "introduce yourself" thread, and made into a tattoo and inked onto every single MFPers rear end.

    Welcome KBella!

You can do this - It truly is all about calories in vs calories burned. You must log everything you eat. I use to be "oh well i will just eat the salad, or I will skip the fries or chips and just have the sandwich" but untill you realize the calories in food you just have no idea what you are eating. The best thing I did was buy a pedometer type thing that tells me exactly how many calories I burn a day.T hen boom when I haveburned 3500 calories more than I have eaten - there goes a pound. Just take is slow and do not get discouraged or down on yourself if you mess up - Best of luck!!

    HI,
You can do this! Welcome to MFP. that is the first step. The next step is to honestly and faithly enter everything you eat and all of your exercise. If you do this, you will start seeing results. Feel free to add me.

On a side note, I grew up in Racine. Went to Goodland, Starbuck and Case. I'm a bit older than you and have been away from Racine for many years and haven't been back in about a year. Always loved drives to Windpoint Lighthouse and by the lake. I miss "The Farm" custard, but that definitely has to be a thing of the past.

    You can do this!!!
  • I feel the same, please add me, we will do it together as a community!

SLOW AND STEADY KEEPS EVERYONE HAPPY. Set small short term goals, forget long term...They come when you start acheiving the short ones, and it feels as though your accomplishing more. If you are hopping off the couch to str8 into exercising.....Start with walking and work your way up to a brisk walk...progress from there...that way there's no injuries and stretch.

Nutrition is a diet.............Nutrition with exercise is a LIFESTYLE.

Hello, and welcome to MFP. Make a few friends and dedicate yourself to logging every meal / every day. Educate yourself on how to eat to nourish your body (there are many great resources here) and you'll find yourself motivated and moving toward a healthier you. If you get discouraged, hang in there. If you quit, come back and try again. If you get confused, ask questions. Drink your water, Get some exercise, even if it's just taking your little one for a walk in the stroller. You can do this.

You can do this!!!!!!! I don't know where your starting out or how far you have to go but getting healthy is not really all that hard. (and I say this as an ex junk food addict) Here's how I got started.

Take it one day at a time, one meal at a time. Make changes you know you can and start out slowly. I say I am a turtle on a journey. I have lost 22 pounds so far in 37 days, and have another 138 to loose. Its not a race!!! It is not a mission! It is a journey, where you learn to take care of yourself better, and feel better, and change your life for the better.
