Which calorie goal??

I just read this post : http://www.myfitnesspal.com/topics/show/654536-in-place-of-a-road-map-2-0-revised-7-2-12

In MFP, I set my exercise goal to 0... and my activity level to "Sedentary" - which is pretty realistic based on my job and home life. MFP determined a 1200/day caloric goal.

Using the BMR calculator in the above post and, again, choosing a "Sedentary" lifestyle - TDEE minus 20% is 1729/day.

For the ease of discussion, let's assume no exercise. Although, I do intend to exercise... I can figure that part out (eating calories burned vs not)... I just need a caloric place to start.

I'm not really sure where to set my calorie goal. The numbers are ~500/day different.

What weight loss goal did you set on MFP? It sounds like your TDEE is around 2100 cals, if you set MFP to lose 2 pounds per week, the deficit would need to be of 1000 cals. That would put you at 1100 calories. Since MFP takes 1200 as the absolute mininum it puts you there.

With TDEE -20% your deficit is about 400 cals. In theory that would amount to a little under a pound per week. If you set MFP to a smaller weight loss goal, it is likely the two numbers will be much closer.

Ah ha. You're right. That closed the gap some.

    Thanks so much!
