I have a polar HRM ,i usually wear it during gym or circuit training, for the first time i wore it while walking and to my surprise it registered 10 calories per minute as calorie burned.. i walked for 22 minutes and end up getting 210 as calorie burned. Does it sound right? All throughpout my heart rate stayed between 129-130-140 bpm.
I use to wear Bodymedia and it always gave me a reading of 6-8 calories however i cancelled my subscription because overall numbers were too off for me.. So i went back to my HRM... now HRM is giving me a heart attack... Do u guys think its possible to burn 100 cals in 10 minutes just by walking??
Here are my stats:
I am 163 cm tall and weigh 201 pound as of today,

I'm 5' 5" and 177 pounds..
.the only time I burn 10 calories a min is when I'm running and my heart rate is up averageing 155. when my heart rate is averaging in the 140 range I'm burning about 8 calories a main.
Size makes a difference too, the more weight the higher the calories burn....so it could be right for you.0 -
That reading seems fairly high to me. My recollection is that outdoors walking I'm at about 110 calories per 20 minutes at about 3.2/3.3 mph. (5' 11" 200 lb. male)
If I remember I'll check tonight at the gym to see how fast (on a treadmill) I have to be going to get to 10 cal/min. I'm going to guess at least 4 mph and probably over 5. I'm guessing I'd be jogging rather than walking.0 -
Probably not accurate - check that it's set up with your right stats. I'd guess you're actually burning closer to 150ish, from the numbers you gave. (That is, 150ish for the 22 minutes, not 150/10 minutes!)0

I checked stats twice.. They are correct.. Not sure why its showing so much burn.0 -

Well I was half-right. On a Precor treadmill I was just under 10 ca/min at 4.6 mph and just over at 4.7 mph. At that speed I'm half-way between a walk and a jog. Not a comfortable pace for me; I'd rather walk slower or jog faster. (I'm 63 y/o FWIW)0 -
With that heart rate, it sounds right.0

It sounds like it's picking up a bit of a high hear rate. I doubt that walking you're getting that high of a heart rate. It's possible but you'd have to be very out of shape, or walking very quickly.0
