Frusterated about early Plateau

Excuse the frustrated post: I have logged in and pretty much stayed at or under my given calorie goal plus worked out (mostly cardio some weights) 4 days a week for 49 days. I know I should be happy that I have lost 7 pounds, but I feel at this point it should be more in that amount of time. It's hard to stay focused when I can't seem to break 220 lbs... Just frustrated. I needed to vent about it and thought this was the best place to do so.... Sigh.... Ill keep pushing tomorrow.

Any words of encouragement or advice is greatly appreciated :)

you should be eating way more calories if you're working out that often, and are over 200 lbs.

Wow - it must be something about 220lbs! I was stuck too. I started Eat Stop Eat Intermittent Fasting for the last month...and I FINALLY broke my 4 month plateau and lost 8 lbs in one month. Im about ready to go back to regular eating here soon, I just used IF to get through the plateau.

    Good luck!

Can this be the "220lb plateau club" thread!? LOL

I started MFP in January 2011 and by December 2011 had got down to 220lb and plateaued for weeks. I ended up getting frustrated and went on a "break" that I ended up on until July 2012. I then got back into MFP with exercise in Oct 2012 and by December 2012 had once again hit the 220lb mark and plateaued! Same month and same weight = plateau.

I have just started up again this week after a 2 month break. Needless to say, I am dreading the 220lb wall again!

It must be!! One of my best friends saw I had posted this thread last night, and while she has lost about 90 pounds or so, she said she hit her plateau at 220 as well. What a bummer! Well, good luck on this round!!

Wow, I am also plateaud at 221. I wonder what it is about the 220's that makes us get stuck? I have tried and tried to break the plateadu, but so far to no avail!

it's because our bodies hate us! it's the only reasonable explanation.

Correct terminology would be "stall". An actual weight plateau is 6 weeks or more of no weight loss IF one has been consistent with diet and exercise during that period.

Now that that's clear, stalls happen when the body is trying to adapt to lower calories. Metabolic rate starts to slow when weight goes down and when calories are restricted. So how to boost metabolism which is usually the culprit? Increase intensity of exercise, lessen rest times, speed up cardio work, etc. Also, as weight goes down, so does requirement of calories so make sure to adjust for that.

Same here. I have upped my calories and am working out 3x a week and doing some weights. Slowly it is starting to shift again. It is drily starting but the scales don't tell the whole story. The way my clothes fit does. I am still mentally hung up on the scales which infuriates me though. Good luck. It is tough but look at what you have achieved. Tweak those cals a bit and experiment. This is about learning about your body and how it reacts over time.

That's literally the same advice someone gave me yesterday. Started a different routine at the gym yesterday, hopefully will start seeing/feeling some changes. Thank you everyone for your advice and stories! I feel a little more confident knowing we are all struggling through this together.

Hi I’m at 211 for 2 1/2 months with same calorie intake. No different in weight or in the clothes which is more important. I got the app bc I had a couch for 3 months helping me thru macros bc never did macros. Since sept I’ve lost 34 even thru holidays. Enjoyed but didn’t go crazy. Didn’t gain but didn’t lose. Really frustrated!! My big problem is I broke my feet and take pain meds to get thru working. So by 2-3:00 they are hurting and second dose doesn’t help so exercise isn’t a choice. I use to walk2-3 miles a day but can’t anymore more. Even stationary bike hurts. Mines just diet. I’ve tried the tricks I know but nothing is working. I have to eat around 8 after taking meds bc it gets me sick to my stomach so it like egg, cup cottage ch. then tried to wait to I’m hungry. I need help!!!!! Please
