What's the difference? I'm doing weight lifting at home...NROLFW....and using dumbbells to do deadlifts and squats and have done loads of googles and youtube videos but when I actually do them, they don't feel much different. So i think I'm doing it wrong!
So.... can someone spell it out please?
Best way to do a squat with dumbbells
Best way to do a deadlift with dumbbells
Dumbbells are 10kg each!

A deadlift is hip-dominant. A squat is knee-dominant.0

The videos should show you how to do them properly and which muscles it works. You may not feel the muscles until your weights are heavier.0

deadlift is picking them up off the floor.
squat is doing that once and then starting from the upright position. If you are using db's I'd recommend goblet squats instead of the holding by your side style.
And when deadlifts get too easy you can try single leg straight leg DL's. Don't need much weight to make these hard.0 -

Yeah, what Jimmy said.
You should feel a deadlift more in the glutes and hamstring muscles. A squat will work the quads more.
A deadlift is a "pulling" lift, i.e. you are pulling the weight off the floor. Start with the weights in front of you almost over your the center of your feet. Bend at the waist/hips while keeping your back straight and squat to the weights. As you pick them up, keep the weights in front of your legs, straighten your legs (stand up) and pull with your glutes to also straighten at the waist/hips.
On a squat, keep the weights on your shoulders and keep your back upright/vertical and just squat.
I don't have any video links but I'm sure someone will pop some in.0 -
Also, I didn't "feel" the squats the first time I did them because I wasn't getting parallel. When you get your hip down lower than your knee and the top of your thigh is parallel to the floor, then I sure felt it.0
