Does water make you more thirsty?

I will full admit it, before joined up and getting serious about my health, I did NOT drink water. Like, not at all. I drank soda all day long, which is absolutely TERRIBLE and I've cut it out mostly now (the occasional diet soda with a meal, otherwise water all the way).
However, since I've been drinking water I've notices suddenly I am thirsty a lot, whereas before I really didn't experience thirst so much. Is it possible drinking water has somehow awakened something in me? I'm not diabetic or anything, just wat with a doctor and had bloodwork done a bit over a week ago. The thirst isn't like OH MY GOD insatiable, but it's definitely there.
Just curious if anyone else experienced this or anything. I guess my body is just thinking "Finally!"

what happens when you drink a lot of water is it makes you go to the bathroom more often (duh) and thereby releases a lot of the hydration you would have gotten from it. normally our bodies cling to water, because in ancient times we didn't always know if we were going to have reliable access to clean drinking water. it's an evolutionary development in order to try and hold on to hydration in case of a drought or something of that sort. when you inundate your body with water, i thinks "oh cool, we're good on water, i'll just let this go cause i don't need it anymore!" so that's why you get thirstier.0

I think that when you drink a lot of water, your body gets used to it and wants more. If you're drinking a lot a lot, you may be flushing out good salts and things that keep you hydrated, if you're drinking so much it's going straight through you, then that might be too much, it's better to sip at over the day than glug a load.1

That makes sense. I'm actually not peeing as much as I thought I would. I mean, the first few days I was but I seem to have stabilized now. Thanks for the reply!0

Fizzy drinks are kinda sticky and viscous so hang around a bit at the back of your throat making it feel lubricated for longer. Water doesn't do that so your mouth/throat could get drier quicker.1

May not apply to you at all, but when I started getting more water and eating less, I noticed thirst more because I stopped interpreting it as hunger.1

I definitely noticed feeling thirst more when I started drinking more water. Before that I was just really bad at keeping myself hydrated at all having maybe 2 or 3 drinks a day - now I'm on 9 or 10 when you include water plus any tea/coffee/other!0

I'm so glad I found this post. All my life I've hated water. I drank so little I would pee just twice a day. For about a month now I've been drinking 90-120oz a day. At first 90oz was just too much for me. Now I'm still thirsty after 120oz. I could just glug water all day. I chug about 15oz and 20 mins later I'm thirsty again. I'm scared if I drank as much as I really wanted to I'd drown! Had bloodwork done less than a month ago so I know there's no medical condition. I have no idea what's going on.0
