Hi y'all, sorry if this is a repeat but did anyone see last nights biggest loser? I loved Bob's last chance workout idea with the deck of cards. I'm thinking about doing that as a way of shocking my body. Any thoughts on it or any thoughts about how I would log it?

And why does your body need a shock?
  • @felcandy...he took a deck of cards and assigned each suit an exercise for example the jack of hearts would be 10 push-ups and so on
@evgeni...not really a "shock " more of getting my body out of the routine of riding my bike.

i loved this idea but i dont know about the "shocking your body" thing. but then again i never understood this concept, i thought people were automatically increasing their intensity of workouts on at least a weekly basis?

for instance when i lift i weights, i increase the weight by 2.5-5 pounds every time or when doing cardio i give myself a goal that's further or faster than the last time i did it.

the deck of cards workout was taking an exercise for each suit (so 4 different exercises) and the value on the card gives you the amount of reps to do. so for instance if you say diamonds are thrusters then 4 of diamonds would be 4 thrusters.

bob had them do it in a room with no exercise equipment, so they used chairs if they needed to. i thought it was a great idea for getting iin a good workout even if you have no gym.. oh and they went through most if not all the deck and the exercises were squats, push ups, thrusters and burpees

on the biggest loser site they had an "at home version" it was suppose to only be for 10 minutes, but i completed the whole deck. on the site hearts are push ups, diamonds are ab crunches, spades were squats, and clubs where shoulder blade squeezes. i logged it under calisthenics. it's a good work out, your arms will be killing you after the all push ups.
  • @jacque thanks I'll have to go look.

Ha ha that sounds a lot like a game I play with my preschool class. I have a pair of giant dice. On one there are numbers. On the other there are interchangeable pictures of different motions/movements (jump, stomp, spin, arm circles, toe touches, bird-flap, etc). Each kid tosses the dice and we do whatever comes up. It's fun and a great little mini-workout for me!

  • Heres my version. Hearts = pushups, Diamonds = Situps, Spades = Squats with 20lb dumbell to shoulder presses, Clubs = Pull downs.
numbers represet how many reps, face cards = 10 reps and Aces = 15 reps.
Do it as fast as you can. Awsome workout as long as you do it as fast as you can without passing out or puking... came close a couple of times!

I've done this workout before with my trainer at the gym... I think we did burpees, pushups, lateral raises (for arms w/ 7.5 lb weights), and squats. Aces high (11) :)

It was a killer workout / no breaks and probably took about 30-40 minutes to complete the whole thing. LOVED IT.

    calisthenics would be good.

I saw a small group with a trainer doing this at my gym last week. I was wondering what it was. I will have to check it out and make up my own version.
