Hi everyone
My 3 yr old dd is having surgery tomorrow
Tonsils out, tunes in, adenoids out
I've been through the tubes and adenoids last year with my son and wasn't half as nervous and everything went well etc
BUT I keep getting the sympathy stare and hearing horror stories about tonsils (we are all set with tylenol with codeine)
Plus my son is much more easy going, I know my dd doesn't handle pain well and is going to be quit an unhappy patient
I have that twinge of anxiety in my gut and can hear sweets calling my name
Please think good through for us and help me get through the nexy few days w/ out pigging out
Thanks all, Kim

If you're feeling like you might fall off the wagon, I've found that a warm bubble bath (or bath salts) with candles (something girly!) helps a lot in the case of stress relief. Good luck, and I hope that everyone stays healthy for you!0

My oldest had her tonsils out as well - they were HUGE and she snored horribly at night - sounded like an 80-year old overweight man! She was always tired, no matter how long she slept!
Anyways, surgery was fine - no biggie. However, the incision site will be raw and tender for at least a week (doctor said only soft foods and liquids). My daughter (at the time she was 7) snuck some popcorn a few days after surgery, and we ended up back at the hospital because of that (sigh). Again, no big deal - nurse sent us home after a couple of hours. We did not use any of the codeine meds (even though my DD also has a VERY low pain threshold) Tyenol was enough - so seemed like it went off without a hitch.
Hang in there - and baby your DD with ice cream and movies on the couch - she will love it, lol.0 -
Yeah, I'd just find a way to relax. Take some deep breaths, take a quiet bath, etc.
Don't let your nerves get the best of you... everything will go well. Don't worry. :flowerforyou:0 -
Thanks everyone for the support and advice
Nice to hear a NON-horror story about getting tonsils out
I'll update tomorrow when I can

I hope everything wil go smooth for you. My daughter had them out and was only in hospital for 6 hrs. It is a bit scary for them to wheel your baby away but before you know it she'll be back in recovery and it will be over. The good thing is in pediatric wards everyone is good with children who are hurting and also everything is bright and upbeat. If I could give a bit of advice, bring a movie and her fav stuffy. Take care.0

I have always heard that kids do great when they get tonsils out, its when you have to get them out as an adult that is really painful!!
My nephew had it done a few years ago when he was 4 and he did great!0 -
One of the girls I baby-sit had her tonsils out when she was 6 and everything went really well.
I don't know what the surgery did but she used to be a very picky eater and after her surgery, she started eating everything without a fight. Her mom is happy and it makes my life much easier.
All the best!

Hold on, you can handle it!
My prayers for your little one for surgery!0 -
