Can you narrow it down for us a little bit? What kinds of things do you guys like?
As far as dessert, I would hands-down recommend this almond cake: http://www.davidlebovitz.com/2010/06/almond-cake-recipe/
It's extremely delicious and quick and easy to make, and incredibly versatile. The cake itself is so basic that you can dress it up however you want. The last time I made it, I cut it into three layers - mine didn't come out flat, instead was domed, maybe because my baking powder was extra fresh or something, so it was tall enough for extra layers. I put some apricot jam and some amaretto in a small sauce pan and cooked it down until it was pretty thick and spread that between the bottom two layers. Then I made a ganache with good-quality bittersweet chocolate, butter, and cream, and put that between the top layers. But you could do almost anything with it - strawberries, raspberries, lemon...the possibilities are endless!0 -
Other way round here - I'm cooking for a change.
Starter: Scallops with chorizo
Main course: Fillet steak, jacket potatoes and veg.
Pudding: Please don't call me a pudding - that was last year!0 -

We are meat lovers so I was think of veg with meat for main but what meat is the question.
My hubby will eat anything as for me, the only foods I don't eat are shellfish, Asparagus, mushrooms, tomatoes (unless blanched and mixed with herbs) really.
Chorizo is lush but high in calories. We have a chicken and chorizo pasta dish only once a month as it is nearly 1400 cals with the spaghetti and 1/4 of garlic bread lol..very tasty too;-) After i've eaten it, i get on my exercise bike and cycle hard! haha0 -

I am a big fan of pecan-crusted pork or beef tenderloin with blue cheese stuffing. You can also put the pecans inside the tenderloin, for convenience. Or pork medallions in white wine sauce with shallots. Mmm.
For starters, I really love goat cheese and caramelized onion tarts made with phyllo dough. Nom nom nom... or proscuitto-wrapped asparagus, but I guess that would be out, since you're not an asparagus fan!0 -
Do you have a roasting pan? You can roast a whole chicken in an hour and a half. Baking brussel sprouts in olive oil and garlic slices is always good as a side.0

Oooh, yes, brussels sprouts are amazing. I love them sauteed with bacon and chestnuts. Delish!
Also, sweet potato fries are pretty amazing.0 -

I am conserving most of my calories for dinner tonight, we have the same thing for valentines dinner every year.
Starter: Spinach Salad
Main: spaghetti & meatballs with red sauce and breadsticks
Dessert: Champange! maybe some chocolate if I get any from my husband0 -
By all means--keep it light for Valentine's Day---you don't want him in a coma after you feed him--LOL
Shrimp or seafood cocktail
A Wonderful Tossed Salad
A beautifully prepared steak--think filet mignon with a side of sauteed mushrooms.
Fresh berries for desert
Have a wonderful Valentines Day!0 -
There are plenty of tasty things that are low calorie you could cook.
For example:
Starter - scallops or prawns or smoked salmon on a bed of lettuce - all low cal but can be made to look rather posh if you like.
Main - steak with new potatoes and veg
Pudding - check out chocolatecoveredkatie.com - her recipes are fantastic and all low cal.0 -
Thanks..they all sound so yummy! :laugh:0
